Mining
I seem to remember if you spammed mining (e.g. Last Object, Last Target constantly), without waiting for the previous mining to finish, you wasted the ore and automatically got the fail message "You mine and mine but fail, blah blah". (kind of like a mining fizzle)

Sound of spell memorization
When you drop a scroll onto a spellbook, it makes the inscription sound.
I seem to recall it making a the sound of dropping something into the bank box. Am I befuddled?

Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
This issue was researched extensively and the final verdict can be seen in Patch 137:
"Jeweler and Weaver clothing which were inheriting a verified OSI bug were corrected, as research has shown that OSI also corrected this bug at some point themselves."

Re: Boat collision detection
Actually, stepping out onto the open gang plank helps a lot. Step onto the gang plank on the same side as the monster. Issue a command to move in the opposite direction (right or left). Wait until the monster is 2-3 spaces away and issue "forward". Rinse and repeat. This works for serps too.
