ATTENTION: St Louis the scammer?

Going through my log with his hostmask, I've found him joining IRC under at least 12 different names. Today was the first time any suspicion has arisen, but it blew the lid off the while thing when I found his behaviour odd and double checked his hostmask.

This was the incident in question -

200k, you goddamn better believe I was happy with that, right? A few others joined and made offers on his neon hair dye, with Cavewight winning the bid at 700k. As far as we knew this guy was nuts and had no idea what his rares were worth. Silence, however, suddenly dominated the channel, and 'helpp' abruptly quit, returning to #secondage. I asked Cavewight whether he had concluded his deal, as my suspicions were already developing at this point -

I don't have Cavewight's log of this exchange between him and 'helpp', but I would certainly invite him to add it to this thread if he wishes.

In many of these it feels like he can be seen to be playing the helpless newbie, presumably for the purposes of luring people into a scam/trap.

Here he is being kicked for using a staff member's username (EDIT: also on reflection he may have been attempting to impersonate Dupre of A^V) -

I feel certain the majority of people on this shard know my feelings on murdering and scamming, those being that I don't give a damn if they occur without breaching server rules. Pixels are just pixels and UO is bloody ruthless.

This, however, would seem to demonstrate at least one attempt to use IRC as a medium for scamming, which is against the rules and therefore a fucking affront to Derrick, as far as I'm concerned.

WHOEVER this is, whether my initial conclusion was way off the mark or no, keep your scams within server rules, please.

I must admit that I don't quite see the evidence that this person is the same as A^V's Dupre. I know that in-game, Escobart was following me around polymorphing like I was until he got attacked, at which point he was like "It's me, TRab", which not only seems to jive with one of the nick's he used below, but also with his known alt (whom he resembled in word and action) and who certainly isn't Dupre.

Just because the same person (according the the IP address) logs into the IRC server under a lot of different nicks, and one of those nicks happens to be "Dupre", means very little concerning their true identity. Reading through your post, beyond this same IP address being used to (at least from what I can tell) impersonate several other people, I see no other reason to associate this TRab fellow (who I have met in game and I would give 1000:1 odds that he is not Dupre of A^V--and in fact, he's a major goofball in-game, and I am not surprised to see him jumping on IRC under other people's Nick's) with Dupre of A^V.

Furthermore, I don't think it's good form to toss around this kind of accusation on such scant evidence.

But you made a pretty good case against TRab, who should probably be banned from IRC

Turns out going through my logs again has provided no real extra clarity, but I can show you this, that demonstrates either I was mistaken and Dupre & St Louis are two different people, making St Louis the true culprit, or someone is proxying. The latter seems unlikely, but someone's scamming here.

Since I don't have much experience with St. Louis in-game, I can't really add or subtract from your accusation. The fact that he logged in as "StLouis" so many times also corroborates your conclusion...

Regardless, I think you should change your topic name and edit in some sort of update, since I would bet all my gold in UO that Dupre of A^V and this TRab fellow are not the same person. The apparent single attempt to log into IRC as "Dupre" is really no evidence at all for accusing him imo.

Ive had a few experiences with St Louis, he is extremely crafty and deceitful, which in most circles makes for a good UO player. He's shammed me several times. Not sure about this type of behavior all of my run-ins have been strictly in game however.
