Currency Conversion Guide

Post by Wil »

House deeds are the preferred currency for big-gold transactions in UOSA. They weigh little, can be bought and sold to the NPC for full value, can't be stolen from the backpack and (if kept in the backpack of a blue player) stay with the ghost instead of dropping with the corpse. This means they're safe to carry around.

Gold, by comparison, can be stolen from your backpack and looted from your corpse. And you can only easily carry 15,000 to 18,000 gold before resorting to carry-on-cursor tricks.

House deeds come in 7 monetary denominations:

Small: 43,800
Large Brick: 144,500
Patio: 152,800
L-Shape: 192400
Tower: 433,200
Keep: 665,200
Castle: 1,022,800

Unfortunately, these oddball numbers make the conversion rate from gold to deeds difficult. So, I put together a pair of currency conversion charts to help you figure out how many and which deeds you need to match how much gold, just under 100,000 possible conversions in all.

8) Under 2 million gold
 Up to 10 million gold

Examples:
1,883,400 gold: 43xSmall
1,883,500 gold: Tower + L-Shape + Large Brick + 7xPatio + Small
1,883,800 gold: L-Shape + 4xLarge Brick + 7xPatio + Small
1,884,000 gold: 4xL-Shape + 5xPatio + 8xSmall
1,884,100 gold: 2xL-Shape + Large Brick + 6xPatio + 10xSmall
1,884,200 gold: Castle + 3xL-Shape + Patio + 3xSmall
1,884,300 gold: Castle + L-Shape + Large Brick + 2xPatio + 5xSmall
1,884,400 gold: 9xL-Shape + Patio
1,884,500 gold: 7xL-Shape + Large Brick + 2xPatio + 2xSmall
1,884,600 gold: Castle + Keep + Patio + Small
2,000,000 gold: 3xTower + L-Shape + 2xLarge Brick + 5xSmall
3,000,000 gold: Castle + Keep + Tower + 2xLarge Brick + 3xPatio + 3xSmall
4,000,000 gold: 2xCastle + Keep + L-Shape + 2xLarge Brick + 5xPatio + Small
5,000,000 gold: Castle + 2xKeep + 5xTower + 2xPatio + 4xSmall
6,000,000 gold: 2xCastle + 2xKeep + 4xTower + L-Shape + 4xPatio + 2xSmall
7,000,000 gold: 4xCastle + Keep + 3xTower + 2xLarge Brick + 4xPatio + Small
8,000,000 gold: 7xCastle + Keep + 4xSmall
9,000,000 gold: 8xCastle + 3xL-Shape + Patio + 2xSmall
10,000,000 gold: 6xCastle + 4xKeep + 5xL-Shape + Patio + 2xSmall
11,000,000 gold: 8xCastle + 2xKeep + 6xL-Shape + 2xLarge Brick + Small

I didn't run much past 10mil. By then you have entirely too much gold and should give me some of it. :D

I've been considering putting together an application that takes three inputs:

1) Buyer's cash on hand

2) Seller's cash on hand

3) Total cash to be traded

Which would then output a solution of deeds from the buyer + deeds (change) from the seller to come as close as possible to a net change in cash to be traded.

A simple (and unlikely) example would be Buyer 1 owes buyer two 8,300 gp. They each have 300k in their banks. After filling in 1) 300k, 2) 300k and 3) 8,300, the application would instruct the buyer to get a large brick deed, and the seller a patio deed, and trade.

The upshot to this is that it can exploit differences in deed prices for more accurate trading. For instance:

192,400 gold: L-Shape
196,600 gold: Patio + Small

There is a 4,200 gold difference there, so two people with sufficient funds to cover those deeds could safely trade 4,200 gold or increments thereof without any risk.

Anyway, the list you generated is very useful!

I've been playing with the numbers some more. Somewhere around 47M gold the equation settles into a repeating pattern 10,228 entries long that covers every 100 gold increment.

Updated with all possible values to 47x castle deeds. After 47xCastle, subtract castle deeds until you're between 47,048,800 and 48,071,600 gold. The listed deeds plus the castle deeds you subtracted is it.

Most non-castle deeds to optimize an amount of gold: 44
2,027,900 gold: Large Brick + 43xSmall

Most non-castle deeds after the repeating pattern starts: 23
48,596,700 gold: 36xCastle + 15xKeep + 2xTower + L-Shape + 2xPatio + 3xLarge Brick
