GM Tracking Issues
I wasn't sure if this was the right spot to post something like this, so if it's not please move it to the right topic location.
It's an issue regarding tracking ( More than likely at GM level. ) Is it possible to track someone(A player) from an entirely different dungeon? I had a character on the other day and was tracked, then revealed, right down to the exact corner of the part of the room I was in. I won't name names cause my point isn't about what happened It's -how- it happened. It was obvious in my eyes the moment they showed up on screen, that for them to find me out of all the rooms there, was in no way possible that quick without having known I was there to begin with.
Point being. GM tracking a little too strong? I don't see it fair that someone can track you from an entirely different dungeon, to the dungeon you're in. That's crazy.

Re: GM Tracking Issues
I don't understand the mechanics of tracking, so can't help you there. But I like the idea of being able to find someone anywhere, anytime.
Some dirty little bastard griefed me today while I was AFK macro'ing. Which is fair. But it's also fair that I hound his ass for the next millenium if I so choose. So if I can follow him around, that would be nice.

Re: GM Tracking Issues
My biggest problem with tracking, if it works the way it looks to, is the ability to track down someone in an entirely different dungeon, from one dungeon to another. It makes for TOO easy of prey. I can understand the tracker being inside the same dungeon, even different levels of the same dungeon, but not an entirely different one. That's pretty cheap.

Re: GM Tracking Issues
Tracking is based on actual tiles away from someone, as per the world map with all the maps mushed together - use UOAM to see what's actually near what, on the world map. So yes, you can track someone in an entirely different dungeon. The least ridiculous aspect of this would be tracking someone on one floor of Destard while you're on another. More ridiculous is using Tracking near Blood Elementals to search that area and the T2A ice dungeon near the White Wyrm (close on the world map, as you can see via UOAM).
Best I understand, this is accurate. Maybe server lines distorted this back in the day though... but, we have no server lines here, and none of the server line bugs. In any case, it's going to be VERY tough to find evidence that this is not accurate. So, be careful about hiding in dungeons and going AFK or something. Tracking is a very underutilized skill, but I think people are starting to see how fun and useful it is.

Yeah, I believe each dungeon (even floors of dungeons for some) were on different servers. If you look at the black outline of most dungeons, it's a perfect square - indicating it was a server. I never heard of being able to track people to entirely different dungeons.Mikel123 wrote:Best I understand, this is accurate. Though the OP is discounting the fact that he was tracked by complete luck. Or even someone ghosting tipped them off. Not enough information.

Yea the more I look at what happened, the more I can see that's what it is. Another cheap victim of ghosting by pks who need to grow a pair.
Keep on tracking GM trackers
Keep on tracking GM trackers

Re: GM Tracking Issues
Actually, the dungeons as a whole, plus some random places like the star room, were all on the same server. So tracking on Destard 3 from Destard 1 was probably still possible.nightshark wrote:Yeah, I believe each dungeon (even floors of dungeons for some) were on different servers. Re: GM Tracking Issues
I think you were ghosted. I haven't met many pks with tracking or even hiding for that matter. They usually just tank it out, run and gun.
Re: GM Tracking Issues
I agree that the lack of server lines does mess up some of the simpler mechainics. I think it would be wise to try and emulate some of the mechanical features of server lines in the future, such as creatures not wandering past them, and this would also effect tracking; possibly even add a slightly increased random delay to recall and gate when crossing server lines.
This would require a rewrite on most of our "regions", as outside of town lines, our region lines are a little fuzzy.

I remember when moongate PvP started happening.. it was the patch when they made the menu on the moongate where you could pick the town to travel to, and choose which facet as well.Donk wrote:I eagerly await the return of brit moongate PvP and the subsequent "you server-line hopper!" moaning in IRC.
I almost immediately started PKing by the moongate when I realised that trammies would often come through and run to the nearest city. Anti's followed, and not much later there was an explosion of PvP there... the new brit GY.
Moongate PvP was pathetic. OH CRAP A 1V1 --> RUN THROUGH THE MOONGATE/SERVER LINE!!! I was glad when they at least changed it so you couldn't use the moongate as a crim/aggressor

Re: GM Tracking Issues
Moongate pvp was terribly bad. Even worse when people figured out you could hold flamestrike or any cursor while traveling..

[14:17] <UOSAPlayer4056> cr3w guild is a joke. Ran by staff members, multi client pking, this shards a joke and a half.
