Is this the shard for me?

Wow, i was just thinking about UO and how nothing i have played since came close to the experience.

I played from beta for about 3-4 years straight, then probably quit and came back on and off for another 3 years....

Is this for me?

From reading some posts it sounds as if this was just like the real UO... are there big differences? how does a new player earn money to build a character (which im assuming still revolves around magery and needing regs which cost $$$)

Are there alot of people online? Can you buy and place houses? Still mine and craft as you could in UO? How is the red population? RP Reds or griefing reds (does a miner north of minoc have to worry about griefing reds????)

I have so many questions, many im sure i could find on this site but being at work that probably isnt the best option...

Im really just looking to hear from any old UO vets if this is just like the old school UO ... im talking about the experience and rush and sense of accomplishment the game gave.

speaking of accomplishment does earning skills feel rewarding or are they cheaper than they were... (I still remember the night i GM magery for the first time...)

Can you play multiple chars? What do you start with?

Man, i have a million questions but i will cut this short for now.

Im really excited about finding this site but alsmost dont want to get my hopes up.... Im not kidding when I say UO was the best game i ever played.

Looking forward to some feedback/comments in this thread!

Thanks!

I can't give you answers that are as credible as the one's you likely get from players, but we have a lot of old T2A vets on the shard which have helped to shape in into the most accurate T2A free shard there's ever been. The player base is very broad as this game certainly takes all types. I hop you can find a home here and if so, welcome to Second Age.

I will also leave the questions to others. However, I will say this about UO Second Age. I have played and worked with several shards "claiming" to be t2a in the last 6 years. Some of the popular servers that I have played and been involved with development are RoJ, Hubris, Blitz, Novus, IPY, ATC, Defiance, and Divinity. The people that know me for who I am over these years know that if I am here that is saying a lot. I am one of the worst and the most picky individual when it comes to t2a accuracy. UOSA has a great philosophy and system in place for a t2a shard. There is still a lot of work ahead for the staff towards making it more accurate but it will continue to get more accurate patch by patch. If you want to play on an accurate t2a shard than this is the place for you. There is no other shard in existence that has came this close.

I 2nd that feeling bro. The only game I played that made me feel close to that feeling was Shadowbane, but due to the bugs and other technical things it still didn't beat out UO.

Wow you sound ALOT like me. I think I played for maybe 5 years though. It was just before UO:R that I quit. Not sure how long that is. Then I did the back and forth thing too. Even played on another freeshard and was very well established there about 2 years ago (Metropolis). When that server went down suddenly I was so bummed I quit. I then got the bright idea to try again and this shard is by far the best out of all that I have researched so far.

I think so. I'll explain more down below.

I think this is definitely the "real" UO that you are talking about. The best expansion out of all MMO's that I have played was UO:T2A. After Felucca/Trammel and the other stupid changes came... it wasn't the same.
Hoots wrote:Are there alot of people online?
about 100+ on average I have seen. Much better populated than any other one I have played that is my style (including Metropolis).
Hoots wrote:Can you buy and place houses?
Yep, still lotsa room left.
Hoots wrote:Still mine and craft as you could in UO?
Absolutely. Its fun and still has that monotonous feel I remember (which I still enjoy).
Hoots wrote:How is the red population? RP Reds or griefing reds (does a miner north of minoc have to worry about griefing reds????)
Not much experience here with reds. I know that this one blue player attacked and killed me once in Brit GY and when I came back for my corpse they had left basically everything except for the 50 gold I had from kills (which isn't much). They even gave me back my bandages (no magery, but I'm sure my regs would have been gone too if I had them).

With the allowance of UO Razor macros (which I religiously use for the wrist killing stuff) it makes it more comfortable to play. I just started a few days ago and I'm still working my way up to make enough $$ to buy a house, but I'm enjoying the ride! When the day comes that I buy a house and place it I am sure I will have the same sense of accomplishment that I did when I first did it in UO back in the day.

I've been doing everything by myself with no help so far. A few people have PMed me and I have PMed them back, but we have had a hard time hooking up so they can show me a few of the ropes as I'm rusty as hell and appreciate any help because that is the other part I enjoyed about UO... having a crowd to hang with.

To me it will be an accomplishment once I get enough money to be able to GM magery. Most magery is done via macros now through Razor, but I still will lavish and feel great once I get GM Magery.
Hoots wrote:Can you play multiple chars? What do you start with?
Yes you can. Max 3 clients I think right? You start with 100 gold and whatever that matches the beginning skills you picked.

I 100% share that sentiment, but I can honestly say that I am loving the population and everything going on on this shard. The events that are always occurring, the staff (I will link I post I made about a recent thing that happened that was awesome), and the people so far remind of old UO days. The annoying ones, the funny ones, the nice ones, and the dumbass ones.
