Why doesn't the server save before it goes down?

Post by Medwin Lucrii »

Seems the server doesn't save before it reboots in the morning.

The server always makes it's last save at 7:00 AM EST, then stays up for 15 minutes or so, when everyone is running around murdering because it's no longer saving. After that it comes up like 2 minutes later.

So this is done intentionally to allow for a mini server wars?

If so could I suggest a change to the system message.
"Server is going down shortly, there will be no more world saves".

The message I saw says "server is going down shortly". Does not state anything about lack of saves.

But I can understand his point, if you log after the world save you have no clue knowing that the world state has already been saved X minutes ago.

Either: create a logon message so you know you are logging on and none of what you do will be saved

Or: modify the "going down shortly" message to indicate the last save already occurred X minutes ago

(or: change nothing and keep the system as is)

Thanks Batlin, that is what I was getting at.
Granted it isn't a huge deal that I wasted ten minutes buying regs and setting up a macro; only to come back after the restart and find I had to do it all over again. Still it would have been nice to avoid that.

Sorry about the poor timing Medwin. Currently the following messages occur:
6:58am: Last Save is in 2 minutes
The Server is going down shortly
7:00am: The server has saved for the last time before restart.
Every couple minutes until restart: The Server is going down shortly
The shard restarts at or before 7:15am

It's possible however for the shard to restart as early as 7:05 though in a rare case, meaning things happening at 7:10am might be saved, so you can't really go by the time of day if you log in between 7am and 7:15am

I think the suggestion to give a warning on login would be the best solution.

Just update the message that happens every couple of minutes so it says:
"The server is going down shortly, there will be no further saves"
