The shop strongboxes and chests in inns have been spawned. This should give lock-pickers a greater opportunity to work on their skills and make a little cash as well.

Some of the chests have semi-rares, some have gold. One I know of spawns 5 or 6 shields which can be sold for 100 each or so. I've even found two that spawn magic weapons.

Can they be used to raise your lockpicking skill beyond the limit that you have with GM locked boxes, or is that just dungeon (maybe fishing and treat map chests as well) chests?

No, sorry.

(I recommend to search the other lockpicking threads, ample content is available).
