New Host/Server for the Shard.

Post by Derrick »

The rumors are true. We're going to be moving to a more solid location very soon, possibly this weekend.

Downtime will be minimal if there is any at all. We're going to do the transition at shard restart, 7am Eastern (GMT-5) but we're not sure how soon (i.e., which day).

The new host should improve the intermittent packet loss problems that some players have been experiencing. It's hard to tell what the results will be though until we've actually moved, and the new server is loaded up with players. The initial tests we've done have been very promising.

On the day of the move, there's a change that you may initially have some trouble connecting due to DNS update latencies. If you're unable to connect to uosecondage.com, and alternative domain name, new.uosecondage.com has been set up for temporary use.

When you say the new server is loaded up with players, are we talking a merger here? I'm a bit lost..

Im very glad to see the shard growing in a steady rate :). Every day I see new players. A new host means hopefully less lag?

This new host should eliminate a lot or all of the problems some people have been having with packet loss and lag busts.

We moved this morning. If you're trying to connect, our ip address has changed so you may need to close and re-open razor to refresh the address.

my ping dropped by about 20 ms. on top of that, there are no more lag spikes.

before the move, my client would go out of sync about 10+ times a day. I played for a decent amount of time yesterday, and I only went out of sync ONCE. Unfortunately, that once time got me killed :)

great job Derrick!

Look at all these Canadians wetting themselves.

Meanwhile, the 95% of the server who ISN'T from Canada is laggier than ever.
