Proposed mechanics changes for era consistency.

Post by Derrick »

I've been working on trying to resolve some of the accuracy and consistency issues that have been raised in the fourms over the last few weeks. The following is a list of items which are ready to be implemented, most of which will be live on test tonight.

Some of these items will definitely go in, such as the bug fixes. They are all listed here together because this is a comprehensive list of what's currently ready to patch. This isn't however a commitment to implement all of this right away but I think it sums up a lot of what has been raised as concerns, and makes us a lot more consistent within our target timeframe.
  • House Deeds will be noobied (OSI Patch 5/25/1999)
  • Architects no longer buy deeds, the error in the sell menu is the motivation for this.
  • Real Estate Brokers will added to purchase deeds. (OSI Patch 4/14/1999)
  • Checks removed.
  • Gold piles in top level of BankBox will not contribute to Item or Weight restrictions
  • Animal and House Trade Windows removed.
  • You will not be able to place a trash barrel if you already have one.
  • Attack and Item Lift/Use throttle will be treated as separate packet throttles.
  • Spell Interruption from physical attacks will be substantially more frequent (Subject: Interruption.).
  • Correction to Cure spells. Cure and Arch Cure will have the same success rates and based on the demo formula:
  • Explosion potions no longer set off other explosion potions. (OSI Patch 10/1/1998)
Event issues:
  • No trophies for CTF and DD
  • No death timer for holding the flag.
  • Flag will return to it's home on carriers death.
  • I realize this may not be a comprehensive fix, but I'm able to make these changes faster.
  • Random teams ignores guild affiliation when sorting.
Other changes that have been coded for next patch:
  • Craftables that take container resources such as a keg for Potion Keg will require the Keg to be empty
  • Fixed content display gump for Closed Barrels (was showing a backpack)
  • Players must have line of sight to call guards.
  • Dark Steed body and hues corrected. Existing creatures are grandfathered.
  • Loot added back to hellcat and Pred Hellcat
  • Hireables no longer have a minimum set Damage, will be based directly on weapon and skills
  • New damage dice rolls Applied to some animals
  • Surcoats will be tailorable again.
  • Taming difficulty fix for StrongMongbat
  • Potion Kegs pour potions to the container they are in, as long as that container is within the players bank or backpack
  • Shard restart delay is 15 minutes, up from 10
  • Arms coverage for Chain Tunic and Fancy shirt no longer displayed as AR
  • Correction to damage to armor done by macing.
  • A player's active target will be canceled on death
  • Fame will decay over time (Fame is fickle)

Please try to be Very constructive with responces. One liners will be deleted.

awesome patch!! i concur though, do not take the checks away. the only people that want to see them removed are the "trustables" of the shard that want to make a KILLING charging players a % of the transaction to act as a 3rd party broker.

Do I have to download anything for the upcoming changes?

Why no more trophies for CTF or DD?

Why the newbied house deeds? Please provide the evidence/original thread linking accuracy to this change. It's the only one I have any real issue with.

this is taken directly from my SA Playguide, which is dated to 98:

"6.6 PURCHASING A HOUSE OR CASTLE

BLAHBLAHBLAH Watch out for bandits and pickpockets - you do (in italics) NOT want this deed stolen"

Correction to Cure spells. Cure and Arch Cure will have the same success rates and based on the demo formula:

* %Chance=(10000 + ((PoisonStrength * 1750) - (Magery * 75))) / 100
Mind my confusion. .but this is a deadly poison nerf?

You won't need to download anything, this is all server-side.

House deeds were made newbie in May of 1999. Most of the other elements we have on the shard post date this. There's quite a few threads on this dating back over the last year so it's hard to pull a good concise one, but search for house deed newbied.
Here's a recent thread, but there are many many more:

Trophies are being taken out for these games because there has simply been too much exploiting of the events themselves, no trophies will reduce the incentive for doing this.

It is going to improve the chance of healing deadly poison, quite substantially. It's not so much an intentional nerf (or attack) on poison, but it is a fact that the formula we have in place not it simply not correct.
There is more information on the whys of this one in the linked thread.

Also with the changes this patch brings, can the other parts of patch 22 go live? such as 2 minute strenth potions?

For all the less math savvy people, the upcoming patch basically makes it so that you have a 95% chance of success at curing Deadly Poison with GM Magery.

I don't have a poisoner, however are we 100% certain that the uodemo formula is the one that was on live in december of 99? It doesn't seem correct to have such a high cure chance.

Poison is indeed easier to cure, but remember, poison was always only considered a nuisance. It is because of the huge problems with weapon interuption that possibly the better poison on this server filled in the gaps until now. In the old days though, poison was just one more thing to keep a mage on his toes while you were swiping away trying to keep him from casting, and more importantly, GM Poisoners were a pretty rare breed.

GM Poisoners were definately a rare breed. Not many people carried DP weapons back in the day. I remember that it was nearly impossible ot cure the poison from a silver serpent/PE/ophidian knight errandt and DP was extremely hard to cure.

Will the newer tinkering menu w/ create last be implemented as well?
