A proposal for the RP community

Post by Ruuh »

From what I can tell there are a fair amount of people willing to RP on this server. But, there doesn`t seem to be any unifying factor, I propose this.

We have TWO guilds to start out and establish a presence with these TWO guilds. For now, set aside all our personal projects and guild and make TWO central guilds for the community to grow around. Orcs and Humans, being the most classically recognizable good VS evil dynamic, should be the easiest way to get things pulled together. By doing this...

1. Playing in large groups is much more fun than having 20 tiny guilds with 2 people in them.
2. We create a recognizable presence on the server which WILL attract more people to the RP community.
3. After these TWO guilds have created a good base and a well played out set of rules with each other, each group will be more equipped to deal with PKs and what not, expand, and take on any type of adversity.
4. After the community has grown there will be much more room for new sects of RPing such as savages, elves, ect.

What do you guys think? Input, arguments, suggestions please.
This shard has awesome potentially for RP awesomeness. Lets make it happen.

Agreed. I've always firmly believed that RP/PVP should and can co-exist. It is one of the things this game was made for. I'm trying my best to form some sort of community.

You also need a good premise and regular tasks plus some leadership to stick with it.

the downfall of a good RP community is sitting around saying 'what do you want to do now george?"

The Urks had a good thing going with sticking to their characters at all times; asking fir shinnez or anything the did was 'orc' related. The challenge with Humans is that playing somewhat more 'intelligent' class is that is easy to fall into the pit mentioned above. Though I feel I have found a good fit in Paws.

If you want to see some folks doing good things for the Human class, come to Paws. We accept refugees who seek harbor from the throngs of evil that rein under King Brit's careless rule.

Paws is always seeking to keep the roads clear, seeking adventure and treasure when it is presented. We are a village of refuge and naive innocence so we can tolerate almost all Human classes, though we are often very wary of the motives of powerful wizards and murderers. We are no Buc's Den so we can't have murderers roaming about freely, however we do try to engage RP reds in honorable fashion. But mind you we will attack first and ask questions latter if you appear menacing. (i.e. No, it is not a good idea to run up to the President with a Chocolate Revolver).

Come to Paws and revitalize your Spirituality!

I agree with the premises presented here (i.e. that RP is good for the shard, and that it can co-exist with PvP). I don't know that I would agree with the solution proposed just yet. As Blaine and Jupiter noted, there is a gypsy village up and running, and gradually expanding in Paws, with RP themed vendors, and centered around the shrine of spirituality. Blaine is a clever bloke with a great sense of organization, and Jupiter is possibly the best roleplayer I've met in my life.

I've started a semi-RP guild where I hope to train mages and warriors (can't give the name, because we're not technically recruiting yet), and participate in Paws and other events. There are undoubtedly other guilds on the shard with an RP flavour, although you are correct in stating that there are probably many more which are quite small or inactive.

I would propose that, instead of trying to coalesce into two large guilds, we seek to coordinate action among existing RP guilds. This action should comprise social gatherings and fun and games (Jupiter had a fantastic idea the other day involving a bard), as well as dungeon crawls and such. If this proves to be a failed strategy, then we could try something such as you suggest. I just think that diversity would enhance roleplaying if we all committed to it.

I see your point but the fact is that there are simply not enough people, for the time being, RPing. That is why two guilds with a reasonable reputation on the server would attract people, who would otherwise be uninterested or oblivious the RPing, to the RP community. Small guilds with 2- 10 players are all well and fun but they go extinct or inactive faster than you can remember the name of the guild. We need to unite (for now) and build a core to the RP community to grow around. Having the orcs and the humans as two main guilds keeps the premise simple and easily Role playable as well as providing a good vs evil dynamic that enthralls people anywhere. Think about any movie, show, book- a central conflict between Good Vs Evil to which the rest of the story builds and develops around. This will attract new people to RP which is what is most needed. First and foremost we need the numbers. As the Jim Morrison once said ( in Wayne`s World) "If you build it, they will come".

Hello, I am really new to this game, just made my account yesterday, and I am highly interested in rping here, and I love your idea of two factions for rping, though you should just make it good vs evil, why does it have to be orcs that are evil, what about all the evil humans?
That is just what I think, and I would love to participate in some rping here on this shard.

Welcome to the shard Mr. Bob. Come by Paws any time; the doors are always open for new stories. If you wish to jump right into the thick of it and don't care to macro your skills up first, we can help you out. If you like to get some basic training first, I highly recommend the NEW guild. They have a lot of active players training players that can help you get skills up a lot faster than Paws can.

Oh and if you wouldn't mind, the barefooted lad who delivered this message is looking for an escort to any dungeon (for what reason I can't possibly imagine). Could you be a good man and escort this lad?

Signed,
- Jupiter the Grey - Friend of Paws and all honorable warriors.

I agree with most of the original post in this thread. The idea of growing and building-up what is already in-place is a good idea. I've role-played on a lot of shards (mostly EA shards) and one of the biggest problems the RP community faces (besides egos and out-of-character squabbling!) is having TOO many different groups each trying to do their own unique thing. I think in general (though not exclusively, mind you, as there are ALWAYS exceptions) its often better to add on to the current RP community/guilds/towns that are already in place -- at least until the community becomes large enough to accommodate numerous communities/guilds/towns. That might mean sucking it up and temporarily putting off that creation of the pirate RP guild you dreamed about (for example) but, if things are so heavily splintered, the community has difficulty growing.

Anyone wishing to meet up with another RP'er, feel free to add me on ICQ #567811638 or PM me here. I'm always interested in learning more about the current RP groups and doing whatever I can to help.

I came across Sir Justin in the graveyard of Moonglow. This noble order member was most honorable and lent me his blade while we... interrogated some corrupted mages in the Fire Dungeon.

I must say that I was most impressed. I wish them luck in protecting the Fens of the Dead... You have a hopeful prayer that your activities in the marshes will not wake those that sleep.

I have read of the many exploits involving the citizens of this Village of PAWS as chronicled by the wandering grey wizard known as Jupiter. I must say that words of great deeds travel even as far as my homeland, a good distance to the west. We have seen the grey wanderer there but a few times and it is well known that when he appears there is something of great importance or dire tidings to follow.

Since my arrival in this land I have met very few of my elven kin, perhaps this will change as I become more familiar with the cities, towns and villages of Britania. I will make it point in my travels to visit the Village of PAWS and perhaps have a stout mug of honey mead at the renowned Cat's Lair Tavern :D

Dear me. A matter of elves? and here I thought I was just passing throughthe peaceful village of Paws. it seems the tales of Nicu the Gypsy were true. I dismissed his claims of an elven artisan at first but it seems I shall have to look into this...
