Anyone here to welcome a weary traveler?

Post by Seramir »

Ahh, it's good to be back in Britannia. It's been a while since I've tread these paths, and the soil in my boots makes me feel alive again. The wind through the trees felt as though it was calling my name, and I couldn't help but return once more to this place.

But this is a new development! While time has been bringing great changes in other lands, I seem to have come to a place where the past still reigns! Here, the planes have not split, and the world works as it did in days of old. A mysterious place, indeed.

This realm of nostalgia puts me in the mood for a story. I have many to tell, but I see the room is empty! Perhaps someone may come in and listen as I sit here speaking to empty air. I suppose talking to myself will have to do until the barkeep returns.

My thanks, good fellow. Barkeep, give me something that'll cool my tongue and warm my belly! Put it on this rogue's tab! Pardon the appellation, but do seem to have the charm of a rogue, and I couldn't help but call you one.

Anyhow, a story you've asked for and a story you'll receive. I can't promise you anything epic, just a little tale of my adventures in the past. It was a tavern, much like this one. A little bigger, perhaps, and quite a bit more crowded. I was enjoying my liquid supper, when a real beauty walked in the door. She had eyes of silver and hair of gold- yes, yes, I know the stories all say that, but she had such an air about her to make it seem as though she really had just walked out of a story.

Of course, everyone in the place noticed her at once. The room became quiet, but only for a moment. All at once, there was a huge roar from the patrons of the bar. A few of the more drunk ones got up and practically ran at her. Well, as a gentleman, I definitely couldn't allow that. So I pushed myself away from my stool and tried to stand in their way. Even then, it seemed that they meant to run me over. So for the lady's sake, as well as my own, I had to throw a few punches. They weren't expecting it, so I was able to hold them all off for a bit. Once I managed to knock the biggest man down, the rest of the bar joined in and I snuck to the entrance to have a word with the lady.

I escorted her out, and in my most enticing voice, murmured, "Are you unharmed, madam?"

Well, let me tell you, what happened next was the last thing I expected. She scowled at me and shouted, "You're under arrest!"

"I beg your pardon?" That's all I could say at the time.

She yanked out a piece of rope from her purse, and I watched in confusion as she tied it to the hitching post. Then she grabbed my arm. I'll admit, I've never been very physically fit, but it was the shame of my life how easily that girl overpowered me. Before I knew it, one of my arms was tied to the end of that rope, and the other was wrenched behind my back. She pulled out a whistle and blew on it, and the next thing I knew there were guards all around.

Well, one thing led to another, and I ended up being sentenced to a night in jail on the charges of starting a tavern brawl. It was a true enough charge, so there was nothing I could do about it. Well, nothing except get out my lockpicks and break out. I was out and at the next tavern within the hour. While I was there, though, I heard an interesting tale- something about the mayor's daughter having a real thirst for righteousness, and how nice it was that she was helping to punish the town's criminals, and wasn't she beautiful? Nearly choked on my ale when I heard it.

Hope you don't mind listening to the ramblings of a fool. I'd say that I made many mistakes in my youth, but I haven't stopped yet. Just goes to show I'm young at heart, right? Ahh... good times. And what about you, my friend? What can you tell me about yourself, or about this land I've wandered into?

An interested tale indeed, ive got a short little story that was written aboutme and published inside lord british's libraries.....

The noble Sir Dupre ventured to the Serpent Isle, with Iolo, Shamino, and the Avatar, in a quest to stop the fiend Batlin and find Iolo's wife, Gwenno. When Batlin was killed, and the Banes of Chaos released, Dupre was possessed by the Wantonness Bane, which destroyed the town of Monitor, and most of its inhabitants. When he was finally exorcised of the Bane by the Avatar, Dupre was heavy with the guilt of all the deaths that he had caused while under the Bane's control. But when the ashes of a hero were needed to reunite the Chaos Serpent, Sir Dupre gave his life, so that the Avatar could complete his quest, and Dupre was made one with the Serpent of Chaos. This was the end of a truly noble Knight of Britannia.

That's a mighty tragedy, friend. 'Tis always sad when a good man dies. Shall we drink to this mighty fellow Dupre, then? May our fates be happier than his, but let us have such selfless friends! A toast!

But I have yet to introduce myself! Sorry for the rudeness, my name is Seramir. Amateur storyteller, professional troublemaker. I haven't decided whether to stay, or merely pass through, but I was mighty thirsty for a bit of ale. Lucky I found you then, eh? What's your name, fellow?
