Unchecking Razor "Use Smart CPU Usage Reduction" improves UO
Unchecking Razor "Use Smart CPU Usage Reduction" improves UO
There's a feature on razor called "Use smart CPU usage reduction" that is extremely inaccurate and is by default checked. Unfortunately this feature is really for OUTDATED PC's and 98% of the people playing UOSA have no need for it, so unless they uncheck it there will more than likely be unnecessary client-side "lagg" and"choppyness". Subtle or noticeable, you'll see the difference if you uncheck this crappy feature.
Uncheck "use smart CPU usage reduction", restart UO and razor and then see the difference. When you log back in, try moving items around in your bag as if organizing. You'll notice it's smoother and lacks the "cursor lagg" that you may have if it's checked. You may also notice your character can turn smoother and overall the gameplay feels smoother and less "laggy" or "choppy".
Here's a screenshot to show you what option I'm talking about:
Remember after unchecking this option you must restart UO and razor. Then log back and and notice how smooth it is overall = )
It may be subtle or a big difference but everyone who has unchecked it agrees with me that the game is more smooth, enjoyable and most importantly era accurate overall!

Re: "Use Smart CPU Reduction" is not good, uncheck it.
Also, I might add. This option isn't even era accurate. I wonder what genius decided to have the default checked. No one needs this option checked, unless they want a slower and more choppy UO experience.
Re: "Use Smart CPU Reduction" is not good, uncheck it.
Yes! Turn it OFF
Re: Unchecking"Use Smart CPU Usage Reduction" improves UO
I'm going to turn it off! my comp and computers these days I doubt need this.
edit: wow am i imagining things or does everything (animations) look smoother?!

No you're not imagining lol.
I gotten around 50 or so people to do this and not one hasn't agreed it is better unchecked and some said "finally I can keep up with people".

^ You are a genius, and I love you for that.
Re: Unchecking Razor "Use Smart CPU Usage Reduction" improves UO
I can endorse this as a Mac user that uses Wine to run UO. I was thinking that the choppiness was due to using Wine and was considering a windows partition, but this cleared up my issues.
Thanks!
Thanks!

No problem, glad it helped = )
Please spread the word, everyone needs to uncheck this option. That's right, there is literally no one that gains anything from it being enabled.
Someone needs to email razor and tell them to make the Default unchecked, for the new razor update.
SPREAD THE WORD!

This did not help much on Ubuntu Linux/Wine. It used more CPU and made my whole computer go slower. Maybe if I had more than 2 cores on my CPU it would help.
Re: Unchecking Razor "Use Smart CPU Usage Reduction" improves UO
Do you have to restart everything or something? I unchecked it and didnt notice a difference but I didnt log out or restart my computer.
Re: Unchecking Razor "Use Smart CPU Usage Reduction" improves UO
restart UO; this works great.
Re: Unchecking Razor "Use Smart CPU Usage Reduction" improves UO
You have to reopen razor. So exit UO and razor and reopen.Lazarus wrote:Do you have to restart everything or something? I unchecked it and didnt notice a difference but I didnt log out or restart my computer.

I have 3 UO's open at once, then when switching between windows sometimes it will lock up. If i goto razor and uncheck and recheck it unfreezes, but I haven't tried leaving it unchecked yet.

This happens to me too, and I use the same method to unfreeze it, but I'm only running one client.Karik Verlee wrote:I have 3 UO's open at once, then when switching between windows sometimes it will lock up. It freezes when I switch between the client window and other windows such as IRC or IE.
My current theory it that it's "multiple monitors" causing it. It happens on both my primary PC's, one has two monitors, and the other 4. Oh, and Windows7 on both.
