Unexplained lag

Post by Pope Urban II »

Ok. Lately I've been experiencing VERY bad lag (900 ms if I'm lucky, often a few THOUSAND) in UO. However, with everything else (web browser, P2P programs, etc) there is no problem.

I was just downloading something at over 150 kbs-1. I stopped it and logged into UO, where my ping was over 1000 ms. Nothing else that uses my connection was running.

Any ideas? Because this has me absolutely swamped. =|

For the record, before the last few days, I usually have a ping of around 400-500, sometimes 300 or so if I'm lucky.

go to command prompt, run: "tracert uosecondage.com" and post results
This may reveal where the problem is.

Not good. Likely one of your upstream providers has rerouted resulting in a longer trip to the US.

I'd be interested to see a tracert from someone in Australia for comparison. You've got a straight hop from New Zealand to San Fransisco though which is nice.

It could just be congestion, this hop here seems incredibly slow for it's distance from you:
