Movement Delay?

Post by Valdsator »

I've never played Ultima Online before, but I've always wanted to check it out since people appear to love it so much.

Anyways, because of this, I don't know if some type of movement delay is normal in the game. As in, when walking/running somewhere, and I turn around, the character stops for a bit (less than a second) and then begins moving in the new direction.

This makes movement feel a bit sticky, and I'd like to know if this is just how it's supposed to play. Looking at some videos on youtube, I can't exactly tell if the movement has this delay. Note, I have Use Smart CPU Usage Reduction off, so if the delay isn't normal for the game, that shouldn't be the problem.

Sorry for my noob-ness. :P

Ive got this same problem, I used to play UO when it first came out and while I remember a lot of lag in general I don't remember this happening. If anyone has a solution to this Id appreciate it as I'm getting to the point in the game where I can afford to lose equipment while I relearn to pvp. This step step lag step step wont help :)

I've not experienced this. Possibly turning on "enable frame skipping" in the client options (<ALT>O) may help. It sounds possibly like a processor/video car problem, or maybe a fragmented hard drive.

he's talking about lag. the giveaway is that it happens when he turns around.

do this: open command prompt from your start menu (in accessories) and type

ping uosecondage.com -t

let it run for a while, then press ctrl-c and copy and paste the result here

alot of people who haven't played ultima online before sometimes complain about the 'jerkiness' of the game.

it's hard to tell without actually seeing your screen, but what you're describing could be latency, graphical/cpu lag (which, surprisingly, ive known alot of people on vista/windows 7 experience) or simply the way the game is.

make sure you're running the t2a game client downloaded from the uosa downloads section and check your ping using cmd promt (see above post). any latency below 100-150 shouldn't make too much of a difference to your running speed. also, see if you can find someone in game with a similar ping to yours and ask them to have an ingame race with you along a long straight section of map. if they're running significantly faster than you, then its a cpu/graphical issue.

Packets: Sent = 45, Received = 45, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 89ms, Maximum = 1061ms, Average = 217ms

If over 100 is bad we can see where the problem is, constant 1000 ping time every 8 packets. Im fairly illiterate about the internet so is this something on my end, something between me and the server or?

While I dont know much about the internet I do know a bit about how win xp works. I defrag my drive every night, there could be a video problem slowing me down a bit as well, my card is getting old and Im sure its not working as good as it did when new.

Im also having a problem that is talked about in a different post where the client keeps on disconnecting on me. Im fairly sure this is cause by the fact that Im on wireless, behind a firewall I have no control over. This problem has been rectified and Im just waiting for my new internet to be installed.

Wow dude, those 1000 ping spikes are killing you! This is not a PC related issue, it's either your modem or ISP.

Are you playing on wireless? Are there other people in your house downloading stuff, or are you downloading stuff while you play?

Try switching off all PCs in your house except the one you are playing UO on. Close all applications that would be downloading anything, reboot your modem. If you are on wireless, plug your computer in via network cable if possible and then test your ping again.

Chances are you are getting crappy pings in most games you play, but UO lag is really noticeable.

Well as I said I have no control over the firewall Im behind or the computer running it. The wireless Im using now is part of my rent and the 5 others living here. Im guessing this is my problem, glad I got my own internet then. Hopefully this will go away when its connected.

Whats got me mystified tho is why this just started 5-6 days ago. Ive been playing here for 10 days now and didnt have this problem the first 5.

Oh yeah, sorry, I didn't read your whole post. Getting your own internet connection would most certainly fix your issues.

The other tenants could possibly downloading, giving you ping spikes or simple interference somehow.

i used to live in a house with other people and those occasional spikes upto 1000 look like somebodys uploading. ask people in your house to stop their downloading/uploading just for troubleshooting purposes, and if it is them, ask if they could limit their uploads to something reasonable like 15-20kb/s
