chumbucket's Tales of Adventure: Comeback Special, Part 1

Post by chumbucket »

I'M BACK.

Well, to some degree. I came back for a laugh last night and decided it was too much fun not to continue. So here I am. And here's something from today.

Part 1 - The Tale of a Noble Young Bard and a Thankless Lass

I was at West Britain Bank, checking out the action. While going by the name Zion, I was minding my own business, when suddenly a gate opens up next to me. Why not? Maybe something fun will be on the other side.

And there was. Two young lasses stood near the gate, near the entrance to the Delucia passage. One went by the name Cora Layfe. The other's name I forget. I happen to notice what is in their packs. The one is has nothing. Cora, on the other hand, has a runebook and a bag of reagents. The runebook falls from Cora's pack. I pick it up intending to return it.

Cora: Give that back!

Zion: Madam?

Her mandrake root also falls from her pack.

Cora: Stop!

Just then--HORROR OF HORRORS!--a vile alligator attacks the defenseless young lady. She vainly attempts to cast a flamestrike, but its ceaseless bites and her inexperience as a mage prevent her from doing so. She doesn't run. What am I to do?

I do what any noble bard would do: I slay the beast. My staff quickly drains the life from it, as Cora gets a solid shot in with the flamestrike. Down goes the vile reptile. The maiden is safe, but surprisingly unhappy.

Cora: Pls give it back.

Zion: I have saved thine life! Madam, surely thou wishest to thank me?

[I fall into RP speak since I am a noble and chivalrous bard.]

Oddly, she is not thankful. Instead, she casts flamestrike on me. Normally, I would begin in with my staff, but such a fair young lass. How could I? But that dilemma is solved for me before I even think it through. A gentleman who also carries the last name of Layfe emerges from the passage and assaults me with all sorts of spells.

Caught off guard, I make a break for it. In the confusion, Cora is lost while the gentleman remains. I heal and stand my ground. He doesn't fare well. Soon enough I have chased him to a beach, where he meets his fate and I collect my reward: a bag of reagents, some black clothing and a lute.

A LUTE! I have slain one of my own. Alas.

Cora arrives on the scene.

Zion: I have come so far to save thine life! And this be mine thanks!

Rather than continue her vain attempts at killing the very man who has saved her life, she bolts for a nearby house. Being a chivalrous and noble bard, I leave her runebook and her gentleman friend's reagents on the porch and depart for Britain. His black clothing is the cost of his treachery. On arriving, I find she has already made it to the bank. One last time, I ask for even a small showing of gratitude for my valiant efforts.

Zion: Thou never thankest me for saving thine life! That beast meant thee harm.

Cora: ...

Zion: Madam! I demand satisfaction!

Cora: ...

I return to her some mandrake root that she had dropped and check out some mysterious exploding boxes near a hiding figure that appears to be named chumbucket. She follows.

Zion: Maam! Surely you will thank me for my services!

[I forgot about the RP talk...]

Cora: yea cause ur a thief

We begin shouting over one another.

Zion: I am a bard!

Cora: u stole from me that makes you a thief.

Zion: And a brave one that defeated the reptile that meant to take your life.

She leaves, but I follow, still angrily shouting.

Zion: And you allege foul deeds!

Just then, another sudden explosion occurs next to me. A young man in his prime drops dead.

Zion: What mysterious forces are killing these citizens?

I tell you chivalry is not dead, but courtesy and gratitude are near it. Those who do brave deeds are assaulted and spat upon, while murders occur even in the streets of Britain.

What has been implied here!? Sir, I am noble bard, not some streetwalking pimp.
