Wrestling versus monsters(PvM)

I made a thief and for some reason I find it exciting to run around and steal from ettins and wisps. I make a decent amount of money but I wanted to kick it up a notch.

I'm working on GM'ing wrestling and healing right now so I have a better chance of survival versus bigger monsters. I want to be able to go to the Ophidian Fields and run around and steal from these guys with a smaller chance of being hit.

Anyhow,
how good is wrestling in PvM to actually dodge attacks from monsters? Do the percentage calculations work the same as versus a player? Or do monsters have a higher hit rate on players rendering wrestling to be useless?

Thanks in advance.

I believe the calculation is the same. However, I believe some monsters can have over 100 wep skill, and overe 100 DEX, therefore swinging faster, and have more of a chance to hit than a player.

In a side note, I wish you all the luck in the world if you are going into the Ophid Lair with wrestling and stealing as your plan. If you are suicidal, you might as well attack a guard in town.

Well I think the point would be to run around fast, on the outside and just steal from as many as I can. If things get to hot just run off screen and hide to lose aggro. Seems like it would be fun :] If that doesn't work ill go attack guards.

If you are going to steal from monsters...use provocation and music in the template

There's no difference between GM Wrestling and GM Swords (assuming you have a sword in hand) for dodging purposes. So why not use Swords instead, and get a few whacks in while you're taking/dodging hits? At least you may accidentally kill some monsters here and there and save yourself some death. Actually if anything, I'd suggest Macing and Parry, and using a War Axe. Even passively, hitting a monster 50% of the time (or more, as most don't have GM) and sapping some stamina will slow them down.

Hey guys just reporting back from the test run. With GM wrestling, anatomy, and healing I was able to successfully do runs around the Ophidian Fields without dying, and find it easier than my provocation build assuming you are not getting swarmed by 6+ monsters. The trick is to do drive by stealing, and your also practically healing yourself all the time. However the profit and fun factor are pretty high.

Thanks for the suggestions! This is more of a fun farming build rather than total efficiency. Ill tell you though it really works like a charm. With an infinite amount of monsters I can make roughly 800-1200gp a minute. Around the Ophidian Fields this is not to hard to attain, there are literally endless amounts of mobs.

Taking up provocation should rule out needing to steal, so it defies the point I guess. And adding swords is too hefty... Since I have GM snooping, stealing, hiding, stealth, anat, and healing, it would be too much of a burden. Along with the fact that tactics would be needed for swords to be efficient.

Well it's true you can just provoke and summons on creatures and loot their bodies...but its also good to loot as much as you can even before they fall in case PKs show up. If you aren't thinking to PVP with this character stealing is a good alternative to evaluating intelligence. Plus any who survive their battles will only become stronger, making for goldless brutes.

So when the EV or BS is cutting down enemies one at a time you can still be pilfering the rest as they stand. If its not worth it then to wait for the summons to cut down everything on screen thereafter...hit somewhere else. Staying on the move annoys PKs as they usually gear up with pots, spells etc. and wait for you to make a bundle before they step in. Usually light/med spawn is usually avoided because of the time/gold ratio as well. This just makes it so running a whole dungeon to cash in quick is profitable and less time consuming.

You could very well just run around and do "drive-bys" but any thief template can do that and you may as well make it so you are specced to steal from players as well. If you want to focus on stealing from only monsters however for whatever reason the Bard thief is better suited.

This is one of the ultimate forms of griefing :)

Fill the world with lootless monsters! Hehe, perhaps people would leave them alone after this; might be good for the ecosystem :D
