magic properties question !!

Post by Magilla Gorilla »

Ok so I've been hunting a lot and see a bunch of diff combos or magic properties. My question is if anyone has any theories or knowledge on how the tactics bonus compare to the end name property. For exampl e is an item that has plus 10 tacts of might, about the same damage as a wep of just force? Anyone got personal theories or factual formulated knowledge on this pls share.

It depends on the weapon.

Each 1.0 of tactics equals a 1% boost to the weapon's base damage. So the more base damage a weapon does, the more boost tactics gives to it. I assume that the actual boost depends on the roll (so that if your hit does 20 base damage, a 10% boost will do 22 damage, while if your hit does 40, the 10% boost will make it 44), so the best way to look at the average damage boost is to take the average damage you'll receive from a weapon and add the boost.

The damage booster tags offer a flat damage boost, as can be seen here.

In general, even with a halberd and supremely accurate, you're averaging a boost of 6.5 damage per hit, which places it between Force and Power in usefulness. Of course, if you hit for max damage, you're getting a 12.25 boost, which is even better than vanquishing, but that's not going to happen often.

I don't know how the magic properties affect each other, though. For instance, I don't know if the boost from Vanquishing applies before the tactics increase is applied or after. If it's before, then magic items are multiplicatively more powerful as opposed to simply additively.

I should add this is all contingent on me not being totally wrong about the combat formulas.

Tactics, being a % modifier, is more important for harder-hitting weapons. So +25 means more, in absolute damage, for a halberd than it does for a katana.

I worked out the math on all of this, but the format looks bad in here. Let me try to paste below; maybe paste it into your own spreadsheet application and you can see it more easily:

tact +5 tact +10 tact +15 tact +20 tact +25 Weapon Name
0.8 1.7 2.5 3.4 4.2 Halberd(2-H)
0.8 1.5 2.3 3.0 3.8 Bardiche (2-H)
0.7 1.4 2.1 2.8 3.4 Two-handed Axe (2-H)
0.7 1.4 2.1 2.8 3.4 Large Battle Axe (2-H)
0.7 1.4 2.1 2.8 3.4 Battle Axe (2-H)
0.7 1.4 2.1 2.8 3.4 War Hammer (2-H)
0.6 1.3 1.9 2.6 3.2 Black Staff (2-H)
0.6 1.3 1.9 2.5 3.1 Double Axe (2-H)
0.6 1.3 1.9 2.5 3.1 Viking Sword
0.6 1.3 1.9 2.5 3.1 Gnarled Staff (2-H)
0.6 1.3 1.9 2.5 3.1 War Mace *
0.6 1.3 1.9 2.5 3.1 Mace *
0.6 1.3 1.9 2.5 3.1 Maul
0.6 1.2 1.8 2.4 3.0 Executioner's Axe (2-H)
0.6 1.2 1.8 2.4 3.0 Axe (2-H)
0.6 1.2 1.8 2.4 3.0 Hammer Pick
0.6 1.2 1.8 2.4 3.0 Spear (2-H)
0.6 1.2 1.8 2.4 3.0 Longsword
0.6 1.1 1.7 2.3 2.8 War Fork
0.6 1.1 1.7 2.3 2.8 Short Spear (2-H)
0.6 1.1 1.7 2.3 2.8 Quarterstaff (2-H)
0.6 1.1 1.7 2.3 2.8 War Axe
0.5 1.1 1.6 2.1 2.7 Scimitar
0.5 1.1 1.6 2.1 2.7 Broad Sword
0.5 1.1 1.6 2.1 2.7 Cutlass
0.5 1.0 1.5 2.0 2.5 Club
0.5 1.0 1.5 1.9 2.4 Kryss
0.5 1.0 1.5 1.9 2.4 Katana
0.3 0.6 0.8 1.1 1.4 Dagger
0.1 0.3 0.4 0.6 0.7 Wrestling

The numbers are the increase in damage due to each modifier. So, a +25 hammer pick is exactly the same as a hammer pick of might. Both will add exactly +3.0 more damage per hit due to their magical property.
