Patch 43 - July 11, 2008

Changes Effective this morning:
  • Runebook can now be used from two tiles away
  • Character Starting Equip made (more) accurate
  • Blade Spirits now provokable
  • EV and BladeSpirits Poision level increased
  • Cast time now 0.5 secs per circle
  • Cannot Paralyze a mobile already frozen.
Other recent changes:
  • Removed happiness message from animal lore skill message for non-owners
  • Double Domination game result broadcast message no longer always says "CTF"
  • Corrected price of IronIgnot on timer to 8gp
  • Multiple SOS's can now be open at once

Why the change on the spell delays? I didn't see anything wrong with the current system. Did you find documentation that each spell circle was increased .5 by circle?

Not increased by .5 per circle but it is .5 secs per circle.
Yes, we've known of the discrepancy for a while. We have it well documented that this was the correct cast time.

Honestly, it's not a change I was eager to make, we did extensive research to make sure this was correct.

Wow, this is a huge change.

I'm very curious to see how this changes PvP templates. 3 seconds for an Explosion or an Ebolt is an eternity, especially in open field with horses. I could be 2-3 screens away by the time that Explosion gets done casting.

Yea, I can't believe no one is complaining about this on the boards yet. This seems huge. Magery in PvP has been massively changed. 3.0 sec for 6th circle, 3.5 sec for 7th circle.

Will be interesting to see what templates come out of it though. Rise of the quasi-Dexxer-with-Magery-for-Precast-FS?

Na what will end up happening is lower spell circle wars because now its too time costly to even attempt to cast 6th circle, let alone 7th.. Everyone will be spamming arrow & lightning in attempt for disrupts, because at this delay combos & damage won't come close to beating a gheal timer..

ya its gonna change but i think it should be fine.. alatars right lower spells will help for longer duels but they always have
combo's will be harder to complete, and without self disrupts will be very easy to read or see coming..
anyone liking self-disrupts now? :P

anyways I remember on OSI when casting Explosion followed by Paralyze, there would be no need to hold the para.. the timers were set so a 5th lvl could be targetted in the exact amt of time it took the EXP to damage.. which i assume means this patch makes it more accurate.

i'm personally changing my spec around... pumping up dex, picking up healing. Leaning towards magery for recalls and a gheal here and there?

using a fast weapon with 3 sec cast time on 6th circle just seems like a melee class will dominate more.

i assume your dropping wrestle? i feel you but your still vulnerable to both mages and dexers with a temp like that.. med warriors are good on field with pots, i always felt no wrestle to be detrimental to pvp.. anyways that wep you swing every 3 secs only has a 50% hit change vs my GM wrestle anywys.. i'm not too sure i'd be switching temps just yet imho, just get used to this style and mages will still rox

yeah, i'd drop to a dexxer like template.

Resist
dunno what to put in last spot, evallint if i wore armor maybe or med if none

100 str/80 dex/45 int

Just a thought but is seeming more and more of a good idea

6th circle before = 1.75s
6th circle now = 3.00s

think thats correct

In some aspects spell timers were doubled, some you will see no change. Self-disrupts are something im quite a fan of, but because you can't disrupt yourself unless you pop a pouch its pretty difficult to pull a fake combo off, and with the added delay it would probably just cost you more time than the diversion is worth..

I'm not going to change my templates at all, im just going to walk around with meteor swarm precasted now ;\
