Patch 118: Oct 13, 2009: House/Boat item visibility,

Post by Derrick »

  • Items in houses and boats are not sent to client until the house is entered.
    • OSI Patch Mar 28 1999: "A major optimization was done to houses and boats. You will no longer receive the objects that are on or in houses and boats until you step on them."
      • You will still be able to see monsters, animals, or players.
      • You will still be able to see things that are on the steps.
      • This will significantly improve your connection when around buildings that are full of stuff.
      • This will also cause a noticeable pause when you step onto the step of a building, as the contents of the building are downloaded to you.
      • You will still receive the contents of the last building you set foot in, as long as you are within update range. This means that stepping on and then off and then on the step again will not cause repeated delays.
  • Boats can only be commanded by the closest player, and priority is overridden by the living, and by key holders.
  • Spell damage by circle converted from dice multiplier to dice roller. (thread)
  • Detect Hidden offers bonus towards meeting minimum skill for lock-picking
  • Fix for Magic bows using spells and charges in no-magics Events when disarmed during hit delay
  • Beneficial Spell Charges on clothing and jewelry bumped to 2 mins. (thread)
    • The mechanic for timings on these charges is known to be flawed at this time and will be fixed in a later patch.
  • Added Monk NPC. Sells Wine, buys grapes.
  • Fixes some errors in Innkeeper conversation.
  • Corrected Healer stats and skills.(thread)
Mini-Patch update on 10/16:
  • Condemned houses:
    • Houses will become condemned if:
      • The owner has not logged in for 365 days. (we may adjust this)
      • or 90 days if the account is banned.
      • If the owner character owns more than one house.
    • Condemned houses are not refreshable until the reasons for condemnation are remedied.
    • Single clicking the house sign will reveal if the house is condemned.
    • Opening the door or house sign to refresh a house will result in No message.
  • Boat speeds adjusted, and "forward one" fixed (was going forward two).
  • Fixes issue with players falling off boats caused by strange water tiles.
  • Boats can travel under bridges
  • LOS error: Spells should no longer be targetable on the bottom side of any roof tiles from outside the house.
  • Indecipherable maps no longer created if cartographer logs out during map creation.

So with detect hidden will it be possible to pick level 5's before GM?

that's correct, with a bit of detect hidden, it'll be possible. The difficulties have not changed, only the required skill. This is in line with a stratics essay which states that with 95ish lockpicking and a bit of detect you've got a chance to pick a lvl 5, but also it pretty much says "good luck".

Apparently when boats move on screen, their contents are sent to the client. The boat has room to move one tile side to side, so they stuck a ghost on it macroing left/right.

Kludgy, but creative.

Were connection speeds in housing areas really that bad with today's access to broadband internet? I mean I get that it was a big improvement in 1999 when a lot of people were on dial up, but this just seems like an implementation that makes things more frustrating. Does it save bandwidth or something?

i agree .. and love that players can keep this going .. (and I really love this for my mining house .. {the patch in whole} ) but really does this help with lag .. a or a few or a few dozen boats moving without any real reason .. seeing there is a "bug" for this which is pretty easy to do unless you have somone geifing you .. i say remove restrictions for boats which are mobile .. still get the T2A feel without a need to waste server resources..
