Patch 22 - March 10, 2008

Post by Derrick »

I should lead off by apologizing about the crashes last night. The first crash was caused by a bad email address in the Verbal Abuse Report page system. The initial crash caused the new code as described below to be loaded and there was a bug in it which caused a server crash when a Magic Wand was generated in loot. These problems have been fixed and we plan to do more rigorous testing of code changes in the future.

Today's Patch:
  • Melee AR/Damage calculation: The issue with armor deflecting more damage than it should have has been fixed.
A full suit of Plate Mail now gives a base AR of 30, was 40.
Weapon damage calculations now use "dice rolls" instead of a pure random number.
    Stable space has been doubled.
The points at which the map rolls over from North to South and from East to West have been expanded. You will only jump 6 times now when moving over the edge of the map.
    Automated awards for Tournament winners.
Tournament results are now recorded, scored, and posted in books which will be placed in common areas.
Tournaments can now be automated, as the CTF and DoubleDom are currently
Gargoyles pickaxes will no longer spawn.
Resurrection during an event will attempt to return the items in your pack to their original location.
You will no longer be able to resurrect your team mates in an tournament.

Sweet deal! Thanks man, automated tourneys should be awesome. You should put that as a feature on our listing on ConnectUo.

Can you elaborate on the "dice roll" situation?

That is how melee damage was calculated before AoS came along. Basically it will remove the "1 damage" bug that most weapons have on a fresh RunUO Install copy

Here are links to the Oct 99 stratics Combat tables:
Combat
Armor
Weapons
Magical

The "dice rolls" are taken from the stratics pages and have the effect of weighting the randomness of damage towards the middle of the range, the effect is greater with the more dice used essentially favoring average results instead of low and extreme highs.

Here is a link to way more information that you probably care to read about dice mechanics.

I actually understood it for the most part. I don't understand the full depth of it I'm sure, but still.

Only because I've played Shadowrun a lot and understand the roll :P.

"A full suit of Plate Mail now gives a base AR of 30, was 40."

This doesnt even make sense... I use a "dexer" suit which is
Chain chest and legs, plate arms and gorget, ringmail gloves and i get 32 AR.

Full plate suit SHOULD be 40. It's Fing plate... lol.

And not for nothing but with a GM made studded leather i get 21 AR, plate is only 9 armor more? thats just retarded.

Dont forget hes talking about plate from the blacksmith vendor. If I rember right it was like 30ish and then with a heater you would get close to 38 to 40. GM made plate is more, plus all the diffrent metals like shadow or vali would get you to 50 to 60.

What doesn't make sense is using AR values of GM made armor to compare to the store bought. The AR of GM made plate is 38.

Although we appreciate most feedback from players. It's more helpful for us if you could state your case without calling the system retarded. I didn't just pull the AR from plate out of the air. It's the accurate value for the armor. I'd encourage you to read this links I posted and compare base AR ratings. The base AR for ring/chain is 20. Plate providing 50% more protection makes all kinds of sense to me, and I suspect most others. If you've made a suit out half plate and half mail then you're clearly going to find yourself in-between the two.
