The best way to play UO on a Mac?

Post by Commodore Axavious »

Just curious - anyone playing using wine bottler or some kind of program that lets you use Windows programs on a Mac?

I'm trying to decide if I want to go through the trouble of partitioning with Boot Camp. I'd really rather just run UO on the Mac side, if possible, but I'd sooner go through the bother of bootcamp than suffer the pains of laggy crappy performance.

Any insight / personal experience would be appreciated :)

Thanks!

Here's my opportunity to bash the logic behind this:

"I don't want to use Windows to play UO, so I'll use a MAC to emulate Windows so I can play UO."

But to answer your question, you can do it in Boot Camp.

Haha, I never said I don't want to use Windows. Of course I want to use Windows. I just dont have windows, so I need to figure something else out... boot camp being the better, but probably more difficult option to pull off, since I don't know anything about...

...you guessed it. Windows.

Been a while now since I had a desktop PC.

Thanks for your vote though.

I use CrossOver Games occasionally. It lags a bit though. Wouldnt use it for PvP.

VMWare Fusion is so much better and seamless. Try it.

Buy a PC? Shoot me a link to a tricked out $50 gaming PC and we're golden. Any more than that and, sorry, can't balance my checkbook.

What's that? Downloading a program to run Windows on Mac is free? Well, that sounds like a plan!

Thanks guys :)

Alright well... I downloaded Wine and followed the instructions I found on some website, pertaining to UO. To the best of my knowledge I have it all downloaded, but I have no idea how to actually launch the program, haha.

Any help? I'd really appreciate it.

I'm downloading the free trial of Parallels now, too. We'll see if that's any more user-friendly?

Why would you go wine? I told you use CrossOver :)

Parallels is another thing — it requires Windows installation

I use Wine and it works great. I suspect there's a minor delay, but it doesn't prevent me from doing anything that I normally do. (though, I think it would effect me if I were a LEET PVPer, which I am not)

Check this thread for instructions:

As I discovered, you MUST be on the most recent edition of Snow Leopard for it to work.

Alright, so, I got everything up and running last night using Crossover but I haven't had a chance to play.

...curious about Razor though. Is there any way to get that working for the Mac, or am I destined to be out macroed in every PVP encounter for the rest of my UO days?

Razor seems to bug with cross over, it doesnt show the regs heal/etc bars and you cant see the box where you check settups such "as always on top" "auto unequip weapon before casting" etc.

any tips?
