Climbing for dummys

Before you begin you need to be owner or co-owner of a keep or castle
You need to approach from the south side towards the north side only
You will need a lot of horse dung/damaged books/foot stools

Step 1. place two steps on the floor, lock down the top one
Step 2. Walk onto the locked down step, place 4 steps down on the next square, lock down the top one and step onto it.
Step 3. add 4 more stools onto the stack and lock it down, step over.
Repeat these steps until you reach step 4.
You Must have circle of transparency on. When you reach the right height the portculis of the building will disappear and you will see the floor underneath.
At this point and only at this point can you place your step on the lip.
Step 4. place the step where shown. Once placed it will bump up a few spaces.
Step 5. Lock it down here and never touch it agian.

Step 6. Continue steps 1-3 until you are able to walk over the step onto the step locked down on the lip.
It can be deceiving how high you need to be. Just keep going higher until you can.

Step 7. Stack up tables to make your life easier and build yourself a set of stairs. This can take some tinkering and trial and error.
Step 8. Continue along 2 'bumps' at a time as you go. If you cant move its too high.

Then you have a fully functioning staircase onto your roof. When you get up onto you will find yourself not being able to get down. You need to build steps upto the lip step.

Now you are done.

There are many applications for this. You can make full blown patios/porches, varandas etc
You can do this over tower steps for awnings etc.

Many possibilites!

Have fun!

2 questions.

1. Can steps be used to access the front corners of a keep. (your going s-n line makes me wonder). I know about the tower trick but wondering if you can get up there with steps

2. You line about never removing the single step on the roof... is that just to make it easier? There is no reason i couldnt remove and replace that step at different times is there?

Thanks

So are rares needed in this or is this simply only footstools?

as hardcore posted yesterday... you just need a z-axis modifier. For some reason people where trying to keep foot stools a secret but that is all you need.

This would be nice to do having ingots used cosmetically to hide the fact these are only footstools. I can imagine lots can be done with this. Thank you blackfoot for being a good chum about this and letting the people know.

its jsut easier to leave the stool in place once its ont eh lip, you can only place it when your at a certain height so once youv gone higher it can be a pain to go lower again to place it

Awesome. Just got mine done tonight. BTW to anyone who's wondering, trying to do the stairs coming from the north side of the roof does not work. I didn't believe Blackfoot and spent like 2 hours trying to get up there from the backside. Oh well. Tomorrow I might see if all 4 spires on a castle are accessible using this method. I'm guessing only the back two will work, if only the south approach works for that as well.

its worth mentioning that you can make a staircase on the north side as long as you place a step on the lip from the south (get to your roof, then place the step on your north roof wall).

Also, if you make a macro of dropping a stool 1 tile north of you (by relative location), it makes ur life a lot easier when dealing with the lip

So, it appears you need to lock down a footstool in order to step up on it.

If this is the case... could I theoretically build my stairs and just keep the bottom step unlocked so no one can get on the stairs... and then just lock it down when I want to get to the roof? And in that case... wouldn't my roof be inaccessible to looters, since no one but co-owners could lock down the first step of stools?

Could this be used to walk over the bar in a patio house?

BF, care to tell us if you did the tower trick to access the south 2 corners of your keep or is this another "trade secret" you are keeping...
