IRC - Internet Relay Chat

Common Commands
/nick <name>
Changes your name to whatever is in the brackets.

/msg <name> or /query <name>
Sends a private message to the username in brackes.

Channel Modes
The only channel mode basic users should be familiar with is:
+m: Moderated - Only users with voice and above may speak.

For knowledge sake:
+n: No outside messages, users must be inside channel to speak.
+t: Topic may only be set by channel operators.
+l: Limited number of users allowed in channel. (Varies on WildIRC as users join/leave)

User Levels
@ Channel Operator (Ops or chanops): Ability to kick, ban, change channel modes.
+ Voice: Allows user to talk when channel is moderated (+m).

Registering with AuthServ
Why?
Registering with Authserv allows you to be recognized as an Op. You can also mask your IP.

How?
Once connected to the server type:
/msg AuthServ@Services.WildIRC.Net REGISTER <accountname> <password> <email>
Leave out the carrots and input your accountname/password into the fields (this is not your UO game account stuff, totally different) and check your e-mail for a confirmation.

Once registered you must identify with AuthServ after every connect by typing:
/msg AuthServ@Services.WildIRC.Net AUTH <accountname> <password>
Once again leave out the carrots and input your accountname/password.

Registering a Channel
http://wildirc.org/registration/channel-registration
Channel registration is done by network admins (IRCops). Enter the appropriate information into the form and they will create your channel with W (chanserv) in it.

Masking your IP
/mode <nick> +x
Do this command before you join a channel. Otherwise there's no point. :D

Joining a Channel
To join a channel type:
/join #<channelname>
For example: "/join #secondage"

UOSA Channel Listings
#SecondAge - Main channel, moderated
#SecondAgePvP - Owned by UOSA, PvP, unmoderated
#SecondAgeEvents - Event channel
#SecondAgeTrade - Trade channel
#UOSAPvP - Player owned channel, PvP, unmoderated

Sooo you need to register an account, pw, username and email then log in with that in order to start chatting, correct? That would explain why every time I try it I get disconnected from the server.
Sorry, never used IRC, always used in game chat, Vent or TS...

No, those are only options to have full use of IRC's features. If you're only interested in normal chat, you don't need to register, etc.

What message are you getting when you disconnect?

Got it to work, must have been the work computer. Just like using the basic chat in other MMO's it would seem. LOL

im still having the issue even tried different clients
it looks as if it might be the ping pong that's causing it?
the Ping when through then when you woudl expect to get a Pong i disconnect

i also get this at exact same time "Onreceiveddata exception error: unable to read data from the transport connection. An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host"

any suggestions? any ports i can open to help allow it to go through or something?

Couple of suggestions as i think this may be a router problem... always try a powercycle first, unplug for a few minutes and plug black in.

Try connecting through the ip instead of the dns so instead of irc.wildirc.net try 64.85.167.249

Is your router older?

Its not horribly old but a couple years
