Patek's Guides - Raising Stats
Introduction:
This guide will show you how to raise all three of the stats extremely quickly (10 to 100 of any of the three or just 100/100/25 in less than 90 minutes). Also included is a guide on buying skills up to 700.0 real to allow the very fast stat gain method, commonly referred to as "see saw'ing", to work. The guide may appear long, but it's very simple and following it will get you to your desired stat level very quickly.
The macros included in this guide aren't required for the method to work at all, they simply make the process a lot easier.
This guide uses the following skills for raising stats -
Camping - Str and Int
Herding - Str, int and Dex (you'll need a shepherd's crook equipped for this which you can buy off an Animal Tamer at the Stables)
Snooping - Dex
Requirements:
6000gp - This is the amount required for buying skills up to 700.0 real from a completely new character.
Macros Included:
Stat - Cut Kindling,
for cutting kindling for use with camping.
To use this macro, simply push "play" on the macro and walk next to a tree so it is the next tile West of your character. It will automatically cut kindling until the tree has no more and then you can walk to the next and the next and so on until you have enough kindling.
Macro in Razor -
Double Click (dagger 0oF52))
Wait for Target
Pause .50sec
Target RelLock (-1,0)
Pause .50sec
[set to loop]
Macro in text format -
Code: Select all
!Loop
Assistant.Macros.DoubleClickTypeAction|3922|True
Assistant.Macros.WaitForTargetAction|30
Assistant.Macros.PauseAction|00:00:00.5000000
Assistant.Macros.TargetRelLocAction|-1|0
Assistant.Macros.PauseAction|00:00:00.5000000
Stat - Use Kindling,
for using the cut kindling with camping.
To use this macro, simply have kindling in your backpack and push "play" on the macro.
Macro in Razor -
Double Click (kindling (0DE1))
[set to loop]
Macro in text format -
Code: Select all
!Loop
Assistant.Macros.DoubleClickTypeAction|3553|True
Stat - Herding,
for herding an animal.
To use this macro, simply set the lines as detailed below whilst standing in range of the animal you've chosen and push "play" on the macro.
Macro in razor -
Double Click (0xXXXXXXXX)
[this line will need to be set to your shepherd's crook which must be equipped]
Wait for Target

Assistant.Macros.WaitForTargetAction|30

Assistant.Macros.PauseAction|00:00:00.6000000
Stat - Snooping,
for snooping a backpack.
To use this macro, simply set the line as detailed below and be standing next to the character whose backpack you've set as your target and push "play" on the macro.
Macro in Razor -
Double Click (0xXXXXXXXX)
[this line is the backpack of another player found on their paperdoll]
[set to loop]
Macro in text format -
Code: Select all
!Loop
Assistant.Macros.DoubleClickAction|1111111111|3701
Copy the "text format" versions of the above macros into a .txt file in the Razor\Macros directory and save. Next change the file extension to .macro. It will appear in Razor's macro list after you restart Razor. The lines requiring changing, detailed in
red above, are done by right-click on that particular line in the macro in Razor, selecting Set Target and then clicking on the target you want to add.
Method:
Step 1 - Raising total skill points to 700.0 real.
Before undertaking this step, set Camping, Herding and Snooping' skill arrows to "down". Place all remaining skill arrows to "up". Lastly, ensure "Show Real" is turned "on".
In order for the "see-saw" method of stat gain to work, it's required for the character to be at 700.0 real skill points so that when any additional skill is gained it will reduce another skill. You can purchase a small amount of skill points in particular skills from vendors which allows you to buy up to 700.0 skill points in only a few minutes rather than manually raising multiple skills.
When asking a vendor to teach a skill some skills such as Taste Identification it won't work if you say, for example, "sally teach taste identification" - instead, you have to say "sally teach taste". You must say the vendors specific name, then "teach", then the skill name. They'll state an amount of gold which you then grab from your backpack and drop onto the vendor for the skill to go up.
Once you've finished raising your skill level to 700.0 make sure Camping, Herding and Snooping are all 0.0. If they aren't you'll need to buy additional skills from vendors to lower them down (you should be ok though as this guide goes slightly over 700.0 when buying, but this note is included just in case.)
The below picture details the following:
- The locations of the vendors to learn enough skills to reach 700.0 from a new character.
- The type of vendor at the location to learn the skills listed from.
- The word to ask for rather than the skills full name in some cases.
700.0 Guide Picture
Step 2 - Preparing skills for "see-saw".
If you want to raise Str and Dex you'll be using Herding and Snooping.
If you want to raise Str and Int you'll be using Herding and Camping.
If you want to raise Int and Dex you'll be using Camping and Snooping.
1. Set the arrow of a non-important skill you bought to "down".
2. Set the arrow of one of the two skills you'll be using for the "see-saw" to "up".
3. Set the other of the two skills you'll be using for the "see-saw" and all other skill arrows to "lock".
Step 3 - Performing the "see-saw".
Before beginning the step make sure you drag your health bar from your character and double click it to show the detailed stat bar. Ensure all stat arrows are pointed "up".
1. Use the stat-skill you have marked with an up arrow (or start the relevant skill's macro) and then stop when the skill reaches 10.0.
2. Set the non-important skill you just lowered by 10.0 to "lock".
3. Set the stat-skill you just raised to "down".
4. Set the second stat-skill to "up".
5. Use the second stat-skill (or start the relevant skill's macro) and then stop when it reaches 10.0.
6. Set the second stat-skill you just used to "down".
7. Set the first stat-skill to "up".
8. Use the first stat-skill again until it reaches 10.0.
Repeat steps 3 through 8 in a back and forth "see-saw" until each stat reaches the level you desire. When each stat reaches the level you want set it to "lock" to ensure it doesnt change.
Once your stats are where you want them to be, simply set the normal skills you'd like to raise on your character to "up" and all other arrows to "down" and get to training!
This guide is the first in a new set of guides I'm releasing to help clear up some of the questions around stats, certain skills and macros in general. These guides aim to be uniform in fashion with full explanations and methods presented in a clear and concise way. Any questions or suggestions let me know.
Take care all

Patek, I don't want to piss in your Cheerios, but this isn't necessary.
1. Define a Template
2. Choose starting skills
3. Play the game.
That's it, period: do "it" sensibly, and all stats will be in order long before your desired skills flesh-out; on OSI, we didn't have Razor or, pre-OurEADate, stat/skill pointers.
To the extent that I will actually offer additional advice, use Razor: in some cases, you could push 5 skills all at the same time ...

I understand the idea of just playing the game, its really just dependent on the play style of the individual. This guide is more provided if you're a) finishing the stats of a character or b) power levelling. If the person wants to just play and let stats go naturally then all the power to them. (I've been playing UO since early 1998 too, so I understand no 700.0 skill cap, no skill arrows, no stat arrows, pre-patch archery, no meditation, no razor, no UOA etc style accuracy, but some things like stats are just a pain regardless of the era).
This guide and the series of guides i'm writing up are more to get people competitive (PvP, PvM or crafting-wise) as quickly as possible to help remove the cliff some new people feel they have to climb when they join. If I can get more 7xGM hally mages on the field PVP'ing or more alchemists/blacksmiths/poisoners running vendors then my work will be worth-while
Cheers

Wow, epic-troll-failure: any
troll should be able to discern between 8th-century England and Nazi Germany; your brethren writhe in shame ...

"Try"; what "
try"?
There is no "try": there's an oozing hole between your eyes where the bullet went in.
