The real way is based on ping, between .5 and .8 seconds
If your average ping is 40 or less, toss at .5
If your average ping is 150 or less, toss at .6
If your average ping is 300 or less toss at .7
If your average ping is over 300, toss at .8
If you have a shitty computer and shitty ping, panic @ 1.

You could always practice in your house and target one of your other clients. I ping around 124ms and I always hit myself whenever I release on 1 or under. So fox_phyre's advice works the best for me. So 3..2..wait like 0,2 sec and release. Anything more and I blow myself up.
