Getan:
If you don't want to raise resist you could try recalling and marking runes or Invisibility. Once you reach 7th circle spells gate NPCs around. Not sure if you can escort npcs here(I haven't tried) but you should be able to. There's a few runebook collections around that I've seen if you need the locations. The books in Coffee's shop north of Vesper comes to mind right now.

but... I'd macro the magery/resist spells onto another character of yours if I were you. Surely one of your characters will take resist at some point.

If you insist on using non harmful spells I'd take a look at what spells in the circle you need to cast from use the lowest reg cost and work from there.

Just cast the same circle spell that costs the lowest amount of regs..

Heh, I just had the same problem, but I only went through about 150 casts.

I'm following this guide for magery, but it may need some tweaking in respect to resisting spells.

Currently I'm at 71 magery, with only 43 resist. Is there another way to gain resisting spells, such as standing in firewalls or poisoning yourself? I'd hate to spend weeks at a graveyard!

Firewalls can only take you to around 45 resist on my experience. I don't know how easy/hard resist will be to raise given your skill level if you cast energy bolt(to continue steady magery gains)
If I was in your shoes I'd dual client another character, perhaps a crafter, that didn't need resist and use them to cast lightning on that character that does need resist. Switch back once my resist caught up.

Try killing sheep and taking their wool. You can turn it into cloth and sell it to vendors. Boring? Yes. Its decent coin for the efforts though. Especially if you lack a strong mage to kill with.

Or... you could try lumberjacking and bowcraft. There is gold to be found from selling mass amounts of x/bows to the vendors. A warning however: A mass amount of boredom is likely to be found as well

Wouldn't guards get them though? Or only if they are within site range of the victim being attacked?

Agreed. I'm pretty sure resisting spells stops there as well from lightning.
Also, make sure you have your eval int locked, or the spell could be gaining in potency the more you cast it, and you will kill yourself. And make sure you have it set up to cast greater heal on yourself if you drop below a certain hit point total.

Only if you are outside of town, just macro in-town with restock agents. t2a, no spell damage in towns :)

Please not however that gaining resist buy casting on yourself in town is going away very soon as mentioned in other threads. The only way to gain resist for no damage will be the era accurate method of having the caster stand outside town, while you are inside town.

I forgot the lingo name for what this skill gain technique was called so I will try and describe it. I used to go out on a boat and sail in a certain direction casting spells. Once I got a skill gain I would stop the boat, sail forward one square and cast the same spell again for a garaunteed gain. Then you could sail forward one more again, another garaunteed gain. On average you could do this for 5-7 gains in a row before you had to sail on to look for another gain square. I used to have a script written to do this one its own and it proved to be an insanely fast way to GM.

Anyone know if this still works?

Well, there was a similar method called 8x8 where you went forward 8 squares and got an almost always guaranteed gain; however, that was post-t2a and doesn't work here.
