How useful is non-GM Meditation?

Thought about splitting meditation with another skill that I'd only need a limited amount of, but would it be worth it to have lower med?

For example: 70 Meditation, 30 Mining (for cart bonus): would 70 be usable enough to actually work, or would there be too many fails?

If not useful, I could go 90 mining for max cart bonus, and drop ten points into something else?

Anyone have experience with less than gm meditation?

Rate of meditation in mana per second is (Int + Meditation) / 200

Multiply by 2 for "active" mana regen (while actively meditating)

70 med would be fine for passive regen (with 100 int you would see a 15% reduction in mana regen from GM meditation). For active meditation, you would most certainly fail while below 30 mana and often fail below 40.

I have 60 med on my bard and I EV all day. Of course my mana is literally only used for EV's, recalls, maybe a mini heal or cure here and there, and the occasional dispel or ebolt. If I were casting offensively or defensively often I'd want more for sure, but for EV'ing dragons, balrons, etc I have no real 'need' for more med.

The only real draw back is when I really need to actively med I fail good bit, as Nightshark illustrated.

30 mining is pure waste in my opinion my bard/thunter has 0,0 mining.

why is it a waste if it allows you to 3x3 instead of 1x1?

Because there are runehouses all over the shard which allow you to recall within 1 tile of the treasure chest.

Even in the case that the spot is incorrect, you can usually find the tchest in a few tries by checking 1 tile in each direction.
