You have mentioned clearly that using files from the disk isn't necessary to play, but if I still have my T2A disks, can I use them in place of the client download?

Aye. Using the old T2A (or even a UO:R) cd is the best way to go if you've got it. The patching can sometimes be a little touch and go. Patch to 5.0.8.3 using UOAutoPatch in the Ultima Online folder. If you have trouble with the patch, getting repeated failures, go into Ultima Online\patch and delete the patch files (.rtp & .pat) and start patch again.

My best guess is to make sure you're running the setup as administrator, or try the other download link. I've never come across this problem before.

You can remove the encryption manually with uo-rice. http://uo.pspace.at/UO_RICE.htm

I followed all of the instructions you posted but I get stuck at entering britannia. I have client 4.0.4 currently.

Any ideas?

I have 2593 port open as well as all

5000-5010 Game
7775-7777 Login
8888 Patch
8800-8900 UO Messenger
9999 Patch
7875 UOMonitor

(the origin ports, do I need any of these open on?)

Thanks for the reply

Aye. You need to patch up. Lower version clients have been having trouble connecting lately. Navigate to the folder in which UO is installed and run uopatch.exe

Don't patch past 6.0.0.0, recommended is 5.0.8.3

But anything in the 5.x's should be fine.

Hope to see you in game soon

I patched too high, but my patch folder is empty, do I just re-install everything?

You can play with the higher patched version. There are some map differences but slight.
