Is the different coloured sapphire actually a star sapphire?
I think the different colored sapphire is still labelled 'sapphire', it's just a different graphic than the dark blue sapphire type. Like the square tourmaline it also shows up in NPC backpacks, but it may only be certain types (I found one on a 'miller' NPC, but disappeared once the NPC respawned). Most NPC's will spawn with gems from time to time, if not all

Is all of this stuff T2A? And, where does it mostly spawn, on monsters/in the wilderness, etc?

I wish it said more about how rares work. I went to a place that had the barrels but I couldn't pick them up. I'm guessing since these things are so valuable (most of them at least) it isn't as simple as recalling there and picking them up, anything specific you have to do to get them?

Most you just recall in and pick up
some you have to steal from containers or pull from lockpicking a box

What makes them so valueable then, I've been to a few spots, it looks like they don't spawn very often, is that it?

aye they are only non static in certain spots and only pop up in random intervals
think of a set of jars or fruit basket showing up on a table in an npcs house once every couple days at a random hour.

You just walk in and pick it up like any other normal item.

Non-static in this case meaning they don't have a regular spawning period/time they spawn, not where they spawn, right?

Spawn location is pretty static for most of them, although I have heard that some do spawn in different tiles in the same area.

I believe what BF means, is that non-static items can be picked up.

what i meant by non-static is that you can move the object with your mouse/put in your pack without it snapping back into place.
Not that the spawn location changes/doesnt change, sorry

thanks pirul :D

Hmm, well wouldn't they need to be taken in order for another to spawn, so if the ones there aren't takeable and will never become takeable them how do you get them if you can't take them?
