Spirit Speak and Ghost Speaking Appears to be Broken

Please correct me if I'm not era accurate. I should be, considering the responses I got from this post in the general forum. I think I found a bug/ issue. Here is the detail:
When a ghost speaks, he goes into War mode and is visable to living players. Other ghosts can understand what he is saying. The living should see "OOoooOO oooOOoo" instead of what the ghost is saying. When using Spirit Speak, the "O"s translate into whatever the ghost is actually saying so the player using SS can understand what is said.
I've put a new recruiting method into place, and it seems that it won't work because the feature described above is broken. Currently, when a ghost speaks I don't see "OOooOo" though he does go into War mode and is temporarily visable. When I've used SS I get nothing as well. This issue makes the SS skill totally useless. Is this a known issue?

Pretty sure this is all working here, said this in the other post but might as well mention it here as well:
Speaking as a ghost should not put you into war mode.

Hemp, you're missing the point.
Speaking as a ghost should and does put you into War mode. This is why when you speak people can see you, and when you stop speaking, they can't see you anymore. This isn't the problem that I'm reporting.

Speaking as a ghost doesn't put you in war mode on the demo

It did in era...this is how people became visible to the living when they would simply just speak.
This is another area where the demo is incorrect.

To me that seems like one of the most basic functions and I am willing to gurantee that it is at least accurate to the date the demo was made.

There was never a unique name function in UO, yet it exists in demo...that seems basic too.
I know as of May '99 it puts the ghost into war mode...you'd get an invisible ghost saying "OOOooOoOOo" and appearing at the same time (due to war mode)
I can't honestly say I know if this was the case in May of '98

I believe the unique name function has to do with how the characters are stored, as the server and client are basically meshed together, I'm sure Batlin can confirm this.

From his sticky post he doesn't seem to think so

You were never meant to be able to create characters on the demo, I'm positive it has to do with how characters are stored, you were never meant to have one other than "Avatar"

Hey Hemp,
I don't mean to be rude, but please stop trying to hijack this thread. I'm sure you're not doing it on purpose, but the point of this thread is to get what I see as a serious flaw resolved.
When ghosts speak, they should appear to the living and say OOOooOOo unless you have SS on, in which case you should be able to understand what the ghost is saying. This is important if for no other reason, than RP.
This thread isn't about characters or demos.

It's not hijacking at all. What you said is pretty straight forward, every single UO player knows how ghosts should function.. last I checked they functioned that way here, however I just tested it and what you are saying is right.
Some patch must have messed things up, I'm sure Derrick realises how they should function, so now he is aware that ghost speech isn't available at all.
Would you rather me make a seperate topic stating that ghosts shouldn't be forced into war mode through speech or add it as a reply to an already ongoing ghost topic, the discussion of which was complete after the original post?

Last I remembered, you had to toggle into war mode yourself to actually be seen. Just talking wouldn't automatically put you into war mode. A ghost could talk all he wanted but in order for the living to see him they would have to tab in or whatever. That way they could have dead conversations with other ghosts unseen.
But I'm not entirely sure if this was era accurate or not. It's just the last I remember, I'm usually pretty spot on with t2a ruleset, but I have no real assurance that this was the way it was in t2a.

I clearly remember ghosts going into warmode when speaking as well, Stargazer. So I did some looking on Google Groups and here's what I found:

Spirit speak only let's you understand what a ghost is saying. You can see

Clearly the demo is wrong on this one.
