How the f--- do I get IRC to work?

I know I'm a newbie, but please help a pal out, I keep getting:

Was trying HIRC, will try mIRC

Still not working, I tried changing the *.wildirc.net for *.newnet.net and apparently was able to connect, even could join #secondage, but apparently I'm alone there.

G-lined means your IP is banned. Try going to wilirc.org and clicking the Contact Us button where you can appeal your case.

Aye, for some reason your IP is banned from the WildIRC network. I've seen this before, but not often.

You can contact them from their website as stated, I'm sure they will get it unblocked for you fast.
