Agree, agree, agree. There needs to be a vocal community of people pushing for this kind of change on these forums. being forced to use brokers or risk getting scammed is just plain stupid.

Take note that the people who oppose a change like this the most are brokers themselves, and consequently, among the richest and most powerful(socially) on the server.

Same story, different game. Put in mechanics that cater to griefers and lowlifes and you'll get a playerbase filled with "unsavory people" (edited for Derrick). This is also why Darkfall is going down the toilet. The bottom-feeders just rob and grief people until they have no desire to log in anymore and the playerbase just dwindles over time. Not only are they getting griefed and robbed, but then they realize that 9.9/10 people that are playing the same game with them are these types of people. They have no new people to meet and play the game with because everyone is a complete "turd" (edited for Derrick) looking to ruin someones good time. They are like a virus on the server and they are allowed to run rampant until everything is destroyed and no one is left playing anymore. I guess this is more apparent in Darkfall but it still pertains to UOSA in some respects.

P.S. - Have 2 second hally swings been fixed yet? Me and my friends are waiting for this fix to go in before we start playing again. Just curious.

Necro'ing this post could be beneficial as a good history lesson.

2010 and those next few years were the golden years for UOSA's population. But a primary reason many either quit UO all together or went elsewhere wasn't due to game mechanics or the staff, but the quality of the core population. The "deal with it/learn from it/real men play Felucca" crowd.

Many came back to Ultima Online for a bit of nostalgia, allowing them return to an earlier period in their lives that likely also provided a bit more free time. They discovered they didn't have the free time they once did, so the time invested and the things earned meant a bit more to the player. Once they got scammed or pk'ed it stung a bit more. Some just quit, others at least posted (sometimes in epic ragequit fashion) before their departure only to be insulted by certain no-life veterans that seemingly (<-- see what I did there) got off on an unfriendly play style.

For a few years we witnessed the phase of denial as people insisted it was just the "time of year" and that "come [insert season or month here] things will pick up again" yet IDOCs were in abundance and the numbers were heading south.

So here we are today, Ultima diehards have become a dying breed. Nothing the devs can/are going to do will attract new players, it falls upon the tiny player base that remains here.
