Duping new players is a time honored UO tradition. It's always been kind of lame but this is a game where personality is of no concern.

I did not find them funny, original or imaginative. A simple scam to lure new players into a house and gank them, nothing that has not been done before.

That is really pretty lame... I imagine what is in their heads right after someone offers them shelter and they get death.
