I macroed hiding all day. Started the day with 95.3 hiding and came back home 10 hours laster with 95.3 hiding. I'm not over the skill cap, and even if I was I have skills pointed down (like herding). I'm really not sure what happened. Can anyone enlighten me?

Reveal before trying to hide. Stick a "say ." right before you attempt to hide again.

It's odd because that same macro worked all the way up till 95 without revealing.

This actually makes no difference

its easier to hide when you're already hidden thus slower gains
have you ever had hiding on a char ns?

Really?
Only things I knew about hiding difficulty was in a house you're friended (100% success), next to or in a house you're not friended to (50% success?), or around many people (urban legend?).

I macro'd Hiding to GM on my bard about 2 weeks ago without a hitch. Expected gains all the way to GM
I did this in several places, public housing, where there were rooms with 2 or 3 guards in a very confined area. There is some in just about every town, but in Moonglow there is one example just south of the Mage shop that has the recsu/recdu entrance to T2A.

I GM'd hiding on
Zorik Uther in the last few weeks.
I left him in the Britain Library running a simple "Hide, Wait 10.5s" macro.

I've gmed hiding 5 times on this shard, def faster with my suggested method.
You've got time Mikel, why don't you make some charts about it.

Be sure to be in a public place (not a house), and I believe being next to ppl actually helps.
I macroed it next to a town crier in a small city.

Back in the day I GMed it by ... if I remember. I would hide then cast (fishing) in a boat. Fishing took forever to gm but hiding went fast.

The only things I can suggest for not getting gains:
hiding skill arrow not pointed up/at skill cap and no skill arrows pointed down (but you've already said this isn't the case)
OR
you're macroing in your house or a house you are a co-owner/friend of.
If neither of these are the case, then I'm stumped. I had no trouble macroing hiding, always got reliable, consisten gains on several different chars I've GM'd it on
