flying mobs

Post by Quin the Wretch »

Should flying mobs fly over low z obstacles when they are idle wandering? If so I dont think that happens here.

ie: If I box a drag and invis myself, it should fly over it after a while of no target.

I think Quin the Wretch is on to something here.

I remember stupid mongbats flying around and getting stuck everywhere.

I think Quin is on something too!

I vaguely remember this with daemons.

Funny, I remember them flying but not actually able to go through anything. I remember always thinking how pointless it was.

Though to be fair...
- I played before, during, and after T2A through UO:R...so I may be remembering wrong.
- I may also be remembering poly morphing into a demon and being annoyed I couldn't fly over things.

In the harpy room in covetous, fleeing harpys would often fly over the stalagmites and get stuck. As a nub with no magery, there was nothing you could do. Here they treat stalagmites like a wall and don't attempt to cross it.

Do harpies even fly?

The monsters didn't do it when they were actively attacking or chasing something - just when idle.

obviously waaay outa era; but this post speaks to the mechanic I think we are lacking.
The seoncd, and most important trick, is pet position. When a FLYING pet is wounded, and starts to retreat from a fight, it will actaully fly up 2 tiles instead of the normal one. When told to follow you, it will actually park itself over your head. YOu can res and heal from this position, but the bally cannot hit him with phsycal attacks, only magical.

They fly when they are retreating, but it is no different than a run animation.

I believe this is accurate from what I can find from patchnotes:
"
#
# Made flying creatures avoid flying over water and mountains.
"

"
Flying for nightmares has been removed to prevent a house break-in exploit.
"

This would indicate that flying worked differently then running with a different animation.

Flying for nightmares
huh?

I do remember mobs stuck out in the ocean. Usually harpies or gargoyles and usually S. of Shame.
