Save times, and how we can reduce them.

For ideas on how to make Second Age a better shard. Can it get any better? Maybe.

Save times, and how we can reduce them.

Post by Mens Rea »

Save times have increased by about 4 fold since I started playing on here 4 months ago.

The increase in save times has a lot to do with the number of items in the game, so I am thinking why not introduce the clean up britannia system for a little while :>

It will be fun.

But don't include the bless deed plz, that really ruined the game for me once a low pinging bastard from Korea named "Karen" blessed a silver vanq katana and basically ruled the shard. It wasn't fair :<

This was mentioned a little while back around the time I joined the team here. I stated than that I already had the system scripted in my scripts based on the exact system, time frame, setup, etc... I think it would be a pretty cool annual event and bring back some nostalgia from this part of the era.

Couldn't you just save twice as frequently as another solution? The shard rarely crashes...fewer saves would just mean farther reverts in the case of problems...

I've considered decreasing the save frequency as well.

More valuable items were worth more tickets than less valuable items, kinda like selling stuff to NPCs. You threw them in a trash barrel, that's about all I can remember.

Perhaps replace the item bless deed with a clothing bless deed?

Murphy's law = Reducing saving frequency / Pr(Shard crashes) = Shard will crash more³

I like the clean up brit idea ... it will help people clean up a ton of junk around. Maybe have people actively out farming for magics and liven up the server during event off-times. Rewards could be similar to to the real thing ... Neon Hair dyes and beard dyes, clothing bless deeds, black dye tubs .... no phoenix armor or item bless deeds though.

I'd say no to all those prizes :/

How does this system work exactly? Couldn't people just buy tons of shitty items and trash them? I have a feeling that that is pretty much what would happen here.

Clean up Britannia was about getting rid of items off the server that just took up space. The items that I listed were some of the offered prizes, so why change that? ... normal store bought and crafted items didn't give as much as you think.

Lets say you can by a halberd from a npc for 57gp, you get 57 points then towards a prize. Prizes were like 10-15k points for a neon hair dye during that time. Magic items gave more points ... example would be a magic halberd selling for 337gp would give 337 points.

The prizes aren't crazy and what it did was it got rid of unused items on the server as well as something to do to keep people busy, both pvm and pvp. People would farm for magic or whatever to get points and the pks would have people to find to kill. Great system imo ... as long as an Item Bless Deed is not considered for this or ever.

i think what hemp means is that this migh tnot necessarily clean anything up
as people woudl jsut spend 100k on npc stuff just to trash it and get points cause it would be cheaper than collecting trophy points

Then it would be a dual purpose system, where the hoarders could trash the junk, and it would also function as a gold sink.

If the clean up brittannia system was implemented, the ticket prices for the prizes that are on the trophy system should reflect the going rate of trophies, in gold value, imo. So say 100 trophies is roughly 450k in value. If a 100 trophy prize will be awarded in the clean up brittannia event, the prize should cost 450k tickets(assuming trashing NPC items gives tickets equal to its value).
