I have a couple empty soup cans connected by string. This is my preferred method of communication, however distance, quality, and capacity are all issues. :(

But the bandwidth is unlimited and the infrastructure is affordable!

I prefer Discord over IRC for the purpose of gaming communities.

Discord is a far better program for connecting and engaging small communities. It handles huge servers however I think it's actually excels at a community of this size. Also an interesting feature is the fact you can display what game you are playing. Then you can join other public discords displaying UO/Second Age to theoretically thousands of people who scrolls down list of users. Whether or not this could be a viable marketing tool idk. But I imagine hitting similar genres of public channels could provide a few inquires.

The downside is UOSA is so old and there are so many players whom come back around to check on the game etc. Taking down IRC completely could hurt this. Also because discord is so good ive seen other servers take a hit on forum activity due to no use being necessary.

at least half of most people's enjoyment and "playtime" is done through IRC either while at work or times they cannot play. This keeps those individuals logging on each day because they theory crafted or discussed Uo all day via IRC. That being said maximizing our "outside of game platform" could be beneficial. In the end it's going to be up to the players. Dropping IRC would be idiotic and we can't expect staff to police multiPle channels of chat.

BTW if I could recast my vote, It would be for IRC.

#uosecondage is moderated. +b happens. Ask Vega or your favorite friend apoc[PEE]. Discord is not UOSA yet, hence the reason of this post mi ami!

Apoc from PEE just doesnt use it that often anymore so thats prolly why you havent seen +b recently in IRC. No Apoc, no +b for him or Vega.

Yeah, why use a modern, comprehensive chat & voice program like discord (that takes 30 seconds of effort to set up), when you can use a program from 1988?

Spirit of the game, I suppose.

Anytime people can blatantly call other people a faggot cock sucker etc. regularly, it's not actually being moderated.

I hate to split hairs with you.
