I've had this happen quite often as well. Not a big deal during pve but during PvP or when trying to make a break it sucks. Hopefully it can be fixed soon.

Some noob items do break now but I can say that instruments I don't believe are one of them. I've been using my same tambourine on my bard for about 10 months now and they've played a lot of tunes with no signs of slowing down.
