Re: Buffs/Debuffs
PS: Why does UOSA have a -10 stat debuff at GM magery? I always assumed this was due to research on the demo, but even the demo has +11/-11 at GM magery. The +10/-10 information comes from the stratics archive regarding resisting spells that was put together in late January, 1999. Is this planned t...

Re: Wilderness Guard Towers
During the notoriety system days, the guards at these posts would guardwhack Dread Lords, I remember coming back from the Chaos shrine, heading down the bloody plains to my house and getting whacked at the desert Crossroads. I also know the mountain passage in Minoc mines was at one point guarded, ...

Re: Buffs/Debuffs
Sounds like you are saying it should be the opposite Kaivan. Am I correct or just reading it wrong? You're quite correct in your reading. Casting a debuff and a buff on the demo, whether the two spells are of equal or unequal strength, prevents more buffs/debuffs of the same type from being success...

Re: What happened to the guards?
I don't see how that's possible, given that the code for guards explicitly requires the criminal action to take place within a justice region for them to react, and outposts aren't guarded. What specific version of the demo did you play? I PMed you the version I played, it's a somewhat fully spawne...

Re: What happened to the guards?
From a technical standpoint, the guards at the outpost were never supposed to be order guards, nor were they supposed to be combative with aggressive mobs. This, in part, is a correction to that which is permanent. What is the reasoning behind that? In the demo the guards at these outposts are aggr...

Re: Skill arrows, stable slots, kegs
Actually a lot of this came with the Nov 23 patch in 1999. Runebooks, kegs & skill locks were added with this patch, which is UOSA's target date. However not everything from this patch made it into UOSA. This is the one date that UOSA "picks and chooses" from. Due to the fact that this...

Re: Not supposed to gain from fails in T2A era
[*] You gain combat skills passively when someone swings at you. It seems the skill check takes place not only on the attacker, but the defender. That is because skills could be learned from "watching" up until late '98. I figured as much - but not only that but you do gain from your oppo...

Re: Herding
This is the most complicated question, and is something that we can only test with empirical evidence at this time, since the overall skill gain system is embedded in the core of the demo and requires a lot of work to crack into. If there is direct evidence presented in the other thread of skills g...

Re: Not supposed to gain from fails in T2A era
Necro bump because of demo testing. http://forums.uosecondage.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=60634 It does not seem possible to gain herding from failure in the demo. I will be testing other skills to see if there is a pattern. Some examples of skill gain in the demo: More testing required, but I was s...

Herding
I have been using herding in the demo and there's a few key differences with it. Firstly, herding is difficulty based in the demo. It is not difficulty based on UOSA, you can GM from a rabbit. From what I can tell, herding difficulty in the demo is based from the required taming skill of the animal ...

Re: Server Dead
To my knowledge, Derrick added the automated games as a way to mix things up at the time. They were never intended on being here as long as they were. Anyone who's been involved in this on-going debate can (better) name a dozen things that were wrong with them. On the contrary I remember a time whe...

Re: Make an Era Accurate Commercial :P
Reminds me of spending my first Ultima hours running around Yew as a ghost. I had attacked a deer. I lost. My first death was due to attacking a boar somewhere in the bloody plains. After dying and getting ressed by a healer, I happened upon a corpse with a colored cape and was so excited I wore it...
