In the old days you could use paralyze to start the taming process. Later they added a skill/stat loss to the tame if you used paralyze. Which way does UO Second Age operate?

I ran the patcher as administrator and it worked fine for me. The first time I ran it without running it as administrator and it failed as your described.

Right click the patcher and select run as administrator then start it and see if it works for you.
