Meditating at 0 mana, I cannot seem to fail. Is this to suggest that I need more intelligence to gain? (statistical... intelligence.....

It was patched recently, I believe. Skill gain must occur for a stat to be gained, so no more ^ arrow at the cap. You must see-saw.

Anything bought from a vendor should smelt to 1 iron ingot, I think that's the case here.

The horse and armor points are absolutely true. I think the horse price had a lot to do with the vendor script, too (less in stock = more money to buy); I definitely remember either not buying a horse or buying from a player at some points due to the cost.
