Patch 148 - Aug 3 2012 - Housing & spells, NCD's...

  • Perma red characters' corpses will always be red, even if they have < 5 counts.
  • Cannot secure containers in a house that are immovable and not locked down, such as a trashbarrel.
  • Cannot summon Energy Vortex and Blade Spirits in a house.
  • It's no longer possible (Again) to place a tower so that the wings overhang another house. This had apparently been broken in a previous housing placement patch.
  • As per OSI, cannot teleport within 5 tiles of a house or boat.
  • Spell cast completion is a revealing action.
  • A hidden player is not visible to himself for targeting.
  • Name change deeds now are self service, presenting a menu to let you change your name yourself.
The changes to spell casting were tested extensively against OSI behavior, as well as verificaion in the demo scripts.

Please keep comments in this thread strictly on the contents of this patch.

Does this fix the Tower/Keep/Castle killing "bug" that has everbody heated up?

This does fix the summoning an EV or Blade Spirit inside a house issue, but you can still chain lightning or meteor swarm anyone inside a castle, keep or tower.

Are you certain its 5 tiles Derrick? it seem's 1 tile would be more appropriate.

I did testing on both the demo and on live OSI servers and confirmed the 5 tile restriction.

I don't recall not being able to summon creatures in houses.......why was all summoning in houses removed? Just to fix the bug or is there documentation as to the removal that is era accurate? We used to have summoned pet battles on Baja at the Mage Tower as a weekly event.

Hmm. I seem to have some pictures that prove that I was able to summon in my house before the UOSA cutoff date. I actually trained magery in September of 1999 on Telamon by summoning and banning them from my house. I have no proof EV's or BS's were summonable, but I was definitely able to summon daemons and elemental's.

Could this have changed sometime between the beta and the UOSA cutoff date?

This may have been a mis-interpretation of what I said when I talked to Derrick about it. I had told him that it was not possible to summon an EV or BS into any house, regardless of where you were positioned when this happened. This functionality was confirmed on both the demo and on live OSI servers. However, only the demo prevents players from summoning normal creatures in houses, whereas it is possible to summon other types of creatures in houses on OSI servers. Additionally, there is evidence to support regular summoning of creatures in houses that we have at our disposal including a few of the archived screenshots that we have (I don't know exactly which ones, but Derrick has them) which clearly show summoning taking place inside houses. Also, the newsgroups has information on summoning in houses, with many players citing examples, including summoning as part of some old house break in exploits. So, if we have prevented all summoning in houses, then it should be corrected to only limit EV and BS summoning.

You could cast BS's in houses during the era, but I am not sure if it was patched out - we would cast BS's in locked in areas to work up resist and parry.
