This is the beginning of a guide to help people understand how damage is applied to their clothing.

Its in its infancy so if stuff is wrong and left out, it will be added/fixed as we go!

So you have different targets on your body that can get hit by mellee attacks.
http://web.archive.org/web/199910090018 ... combat.htm

Determine Hit Location *
Hit Location % Chance Armor/Clothing protecting this Location
Body 44% Breastplates, Tunics, Dresses, Cloak, Shirts
Arms 14% Arm Plates, Chainmail Tunic, Sleeves
Head 14% Hats, Helmets, masks
Legs/Feet 14% Leg Plates, Leggings, Pants, Skirts, Thigh Boots
Neck 7% Gorgets
Hands 7% Gauntlets, Gloves
* Percentage chance to Hit Locations may vary depending on the type of creature attacking (e.g., a rat would be more likely to hit the Legs/Feet area).

So if you are wearing gloves/armour on your hands they will not be hit very often and their durability will last a lot longer than a chest piece, which almost gets hit every other time. This is important!

So if you have on one article of clothing/armour for each target location the dmg will spread out in the ratio above. What happens when we have layered clothing/armour on a certain location?

If for instance we are wearing Long pants and Boots. These are both on the 'Legs/Feet' area so a 14% chance to be targeted. Which will take the damage? The item on that target area that has the highest Hps will be the one that absorbs the damage. So if you have old pants you have worn for 3 months and new boots on. The new boots will absorb all of the damage until the boots hps match the pants hps.

So say for instance you are trying to protect your blessed sandals from taking any damage its as simple as wearing a new piece of clothing on your leg area each time you go into combat. Your sandals will never take any damage as it will be applied against the higher hp item on the area.

This will be of interest to anyone who has used a clothing bless deed after Christmas 2010. It should help you keep your blessed clothing item around forever. Any items blessed before Christmas 2010 will take damage down to zero hps and not break.

Im not sure if rats actually have greater odds of attacking your feet, but if they do avoid rats etc if your trying to keep your kicks clean!

Shouldn't it be the one with the highest AR?

Ah yea watch my wording of Hps with AR
I assumed higher hit points provided higher AR
