where to go hunting

Post by sharpiejas »

Hi all,

i have just started building my stats up but then i would like to hit some dungeons. Are there any 'safe' areas where i can go and just learn the game mechanics without being prayed on by PK's and maybe pick up a few nice items?

PKs are everywhere. Welcome to UOSA, where you die more vs other players than you do vs monsters.

Hey, welcome to UOSA.

As other have said, the only place you are safe from being killed is the middle tile in your small house...and only if you're alone, and the door is locked.

Always be prapared to fight or flee. Never go out with something you are afraid/can't afford to loose.

That being said, it is a big world. There are places less frequented by pk'ers and that are relatively safer for new adventurers. Places I would recomend are Fire dungeon (remember, inside Fire you're in t2a, so bring a rune to a t2a town); City of the Dead, also in t2a; and maybe the upper levels in shame. That's about it. I would also recomend some overland spawn, in the northern territories (North, North-west of Yew) there is a fairly decent spawn of eles, gargoyles, ettins, ogres, etc. The Yew crypts can also be a good place to hunt (not Yew Liches, as that is a huge PvP spot).

Best way to stay safe: have friends, hunt in groups. If pk's see a group of 6 or 7 they will hardly engage, and if they do, and you fight back, they will most likely recall (not without their fair share of trash talking BS, calling you gankers, etc.).

Despise Dungeon is probably your best bet. It's lots of small critters (which can actually be annoying, as slimes poison and they can box you in) and it's pretty unheard of to see anyone there (except the bottom floor, with the lake and the island in the middle).

Dungeon Wrong is pretty good too... PKs may stop by the second floor (rarely), but I can't imagine they'd waste time on the first floor.

The first few levels of Shame are fairly devoid of activity too, though I'd rank them behind Despise and Wrong as I have seen PKs there very very rarely.

And, really, you're best off exploring the land of the world itself. Far fewer PKs per screen, and there really are plenty of monsters of all types and abilities to beat on. Plus, if you get into health trouble, it's much easier to run away and hide/heal.

Jhelom Graveyard is where it's at. It's 1 tile from the guardzone, no PK would dare show up.

When I was new I always use to hit the northern territories. Just go north from Brit through the mountain pass, and keep going north. Fight air elementals and gargoyles and what not. They will be good for resist and you can make some gold while your at it. Also might want to try out wrong dungeon while your at it, I would say out of all the dungeons (besides despise) wrong dungeon would be the safest. But to be honest none of them are really safe. First level of wrong you got lizardman and ratman no one ever goes back up in there. But second level pks may occasionally show up because of the ogre lord spawn. There are also a couple spots if you can find them along the coast that have huge spawn rates for mobs that no one ever visits. Just keep going north till you hit water and kill everything.
