Limited Connects Per IP **POLL**

Post by RoadKill »

This is no way shape or form an "official poll" - the results of this poll are purely data being collected by players. So don't get all crazy eyed over it!

A few things to remember when voting. This wouldn't delete your old accounts, you'd just be limited to having one connected at a time. For those with family/roommates who play, you'd be allowed to get extra "connects" for your friends/family (just like it is now, except only 1 connection per extra person, not 3)

I'd prefer to see a change in the amount of houses per ip.

Both of the above posters ideas are stupid.

Yeah this is definitely a smart idea. Whats the downside, except for the fact that malice-tg is going to kill himself.

It will lead to a better feel, better game play, and just less multi-client based gayness.

Not to mention it will probably eliminate ghost scouting which was complained about in another thread.

EDIT: Can anyone think of a downside?

You could take it from another perspective as well and say this may turn away potential new people if they have to work 3x as hard to build up their UO stuff.

Considering we all did it the "easy" way there will definitely be a fission.

i agree its a hard call.
especially considering how much everyone macro's these days.

in many ways i think this server would have also flourished as a 1 account no macro rule.
and thus force players into dungeons and wilderness to gain skill points.
i admit i have macro'd my characters skills.

yet i feel macroing has significantly changed what uo is ment to be. i remember back in the day there use to always to smiths at brit forge offering repairs for like 200gp and sets of armour. today it can be easier just to buy a new set.
and as for these massive mining scripting macro's that only require you to watch. well you can guess how i feel about that.

anyways im not convince limiting ip to 1 or 2 would change much. all it does it drag out the processes players must filter though, like skills gain macroing and collecting loots. im not seeing how it encourages players out of the safety zone...

You can macro a 7x Tank Mage without help from any other accounts. The only thing is you cant macro 3 tank mages at the same time.

swords, tactics, wrestling,

Summon daemons and attack them.

Meditation, Magery. Cast on yourself in town and summon daemons to attack.

Resist. Do the NPC mage hireling thingy.

Eval. Use it.

Yeah it takes longer doing 1 account at a time, right now I've got all 3 of my accounts macroing their various skills, but I think the character creation difficulty is worth the gameplay fix, and I would have macroed my characters even if it was only through 1 client at a time.

Solves ghost scouting, 3 account attended resource macroing, and probably other multiclient based problems that I cant think of right now.

Alot of people will probably want it to stay the way it is because they ghost scout, or macro for resources, and if it does get implemented they will probably just get extra clients by saying that they have roommates or something.

But the solution for that would be pay for extra clients thing, but idk about that.

I think it just feels more personable to have only 1 client open, less laggy generally to.

I remember putting abunch of crap in a bag and hiding it under a tree in remote locations to give my other characters stuff on OSI kind of funny, I never lost a bag though:)

I am so sick of hearing this arguement...it's the same one I have been hearing for over 9 months. Truth is, if we just sucked it up back then, it would have been a sixth of the problem it would be to now.

Changes are made here that make skill gains harder (healing, taming etc.) because it is accurate! Steps like these (mainly account limiting) are steps towards accuracy, why should they be treated any different?

If you limit the number of IPs i would not be able to play here. I have a wife that plays. there are a magnitude of reasons to not change the current allowance of ips.

There is your answer Tekai, I'm all for 1 account connected per ip. Also, how do they verify that there really is 2 people on the same IP that would like to play??

How do the do it right now? They don't. Derrick trusts that his players aren't lying. Many people have more than 3 accounts/connects per IP available due to roommates or "roommates". That is why I feel this wouldn't really punish anyone.

If someone is going lie, they are going to lie with either system. But overall, it will drastically reduce the multi-clienting issues.

there was no limit on accounts on OSI if you could afford to PAY for 15 accounts by all means, 15 accounts are yours, but UO only let you run one client at a time (which is why its era accurate) only via 3rd party programs were you able to run more then 1 UO client at a time (illigal programs at the time on OSI) which is why 1 account/client online per person IS era accurate

Would be a nice fix if Derrick could find a way to limit it to 1 connect per Computer. To bad that's not a likely scenario
