There are no patch notes indicating a change.

I know, I've been looking, even though it's pointless I suppose.
My comfort zone has been shattered.

Heh, now you know how I feel when I'm told that I'm crazy because my memory and the demo don't correspond. Good solid platform from which to leap but it's not 100% accurate.

The issue with ghosts not actually manifesting in the demo might be due to the issues with the demo and text. Batlin had to do some very extensive hacking of the demo to get text to work correctly in the multiplayer version, so it is possible that those issues bled over into how this stand-alone server dealt with speech as a ghost.
I can say that it is within my memory that both ghosting and Spirit Speak are supposed to work as mentioned in this thread, and on live servers, speaking as a ghost will toggle you into war mode for 30 seconds.

Nevermore wrote:Last I remembered, you had to toggle into war mode yourself to actually be seen. Just talking wouldn't automatically put you into war mode. A ghost could talk all he wanted but in order for the living to see him they would have to tab in or whatever. That way they could have dead conversations with other ghosts unseen.
But I'm not entirely sure if this was era accurate or not. It's just the last I remember, I'm usually pretty spot on with t2a ruleset, but I have no real assurance that this was the way it was in t2a.
Yeah the words were seen but the ghost wasn't I remember that much, I only played a very little bit back then.
Was it you go in war mode and then your stam starts to drop or something? Which had nothing to do with being able to move in ghost form just in manifestation lengths?
I don't know if the latter was true but I do remember the long OOoooOOo's coming from nowhere.

I believe I was just remembering wrong, according to silverfoot's post.

I skipped ahead on this discussion board and found this...it talks of blessed ingots and making magic armor and weapons. Dated Nov 14, 1998. Is this an era discussion board?

I see the problems here although the conversation makes the issues a little unclear.
The first thing said is lost when spoken, but subsequent statements do come out as OooOoooo.
The ghost should remain visible for 30 secs or so, but currently only manifests for about 5 secs.
The actual spirit speak skill appears to work properly.

Thanks Derrick. I'll give it another shot when I get home tonight, and submit a GM Page if necessary. It had just occured to me that ghost speak could be filtered by Razor, but I don't remember seeing an option like that.

Ok, I believe it's still broken, but there's a workaround.
Currently, ghosts do not stay visable for more than five or so seconds when speaking. This causes what they say to be missed.
The workaround for this is to toggle the ghost into war mode permanently, then speak. Thusly, SS works because what the ghost says can be heard.

When I played long ago briefly in era I think Hemp is right, speaking as a ghost should not put you in war mode.
