On the topic of tames being slow...I think a lot of it is to do with the speeds of most peoples connections now. Back in the day, even on horseback, an orc on foot could sometimes stay with a person. Here...a mounted person just blurs by.
Are mount speeds different? Perhaps, but the general consensus among the orcs is that the connection speeds merely means people load and move faster and so there is no 'lag' holding their speed down. This same thing applies to tames...they could be moving the same speed but since people are moving in a 'lag free' environment, they seem faster which makes the mounts seem slower.
