Yep. He worked hard to have trophies cut back, events decreased, and then...quit.
=\
Great guy, great player, but wrong on this issue.

Events are a necessary evil. If you remove them, you will see a population decrease.
Events also promote clustering of player schedules, which often results in more field action.
I dont like it, but it has to stay.
PS: I am a strong supporter of disabling all of "free use" on these events. I think the non free use tournaments are a big hit and they are the most fair to the imbalance that is no pots vs pots free use tournaments.

I find people outside of town all the time.
Not to mention people in the most random places.

I never played UO, actually I logged on maybe twice in 98-99 on someone elses account, but had always wished I had gotten to play, then I found UOSA.
Alot of the playerbase have played consistently through the ages and have gotten every detail regarding pvp down over the years. Yet there are many others like myself though even if we do engage on the field it's nice to get some practice in where there is no risk because its a good learning experience. Who we are up against are veterns that have always been.
Besides its nice to fight on the same side as your enemies once in awhile, not to mention meet new friends. From what I witnessed since I started playing nearly a year ago is that combat in the events has evolved tremendously.
What the player base here on UOSA have always done was taken an older game to new levels never imagined. This is just another way to do so. Mighty Guild wars could evolve from this understanding of combat, and that should not be taken lightly.
Two things I advise players new to UO is to do your research using the wikki and the search engine for UOSA , but also to participate in events as much as possible.
And have fun, dont worry about your gear if you die, or whatever else may happen that may seem to be a downfall. You will have more, and in the long run your gaming experience will be enrichened once you begin to understand its not the exerpiences of the character but of the player that matters most even should you lose time and again.
And events help teach this, if i may say so.

i'd say make the points be character specific to remove trophies as a sellable product.

I agree 100% with the OP.
Take out every event. Quests are not events.
If you think we need CTF etc to keep the shard alive, obviously you don't think the shard would succeed with accurate OSI T2A Style Game Play.

I disagree with taking the events out. Every game gets boring after awhile and people dont stick with them unless new things or events are put in. Just look at every game out there as they all have upgrades to them to keep their player base interested in their game. We have had these events for a long time and you will only make this server's population drop and probably alot by taking the events out. UO was constantly changing even in T2A to keep things interesting for the players. So I guess I would ask what do you suggest is implamented to keep things interesting for the players after taking out the events and the trohpies? Until you come up with a great idea and try it out to be sure its something the server base likes I would stick with the way things are.

I don't think events impede on the era accurate experience of this shard at all. If you want a completely era accurate experience here, don't participate in events. Things like guild chat and party chat seem to be impeding and interfering with regular era accurate gameplay. Events on the other hand are completely elective.
I don't see why events should be removed.

yes, there are some illogical rewards
and no... thats not an argument to remove the whole system at all
its appreciated and very helpful to take the time and do a forum research for these issues BEFORE posting facts the majority knows and that already have been discussed.
peace

I think people have brought up some very good points, but when it comes down to it, events are horribly, irreparably inaccurate. t2a was about creating your own world, creating your own stuff to do. Not sitting around waiting for GMs to give you something to do. And the argument that i should just not participate is bullshit, because it ruins the experience of those who do not participate by emptying the world of all those who do. These are instanced, safe havens, where nothing that happens inside matters. This is COMPLETELY COUNTER to the risk and reward system of t2a.
