I've been a chess player my whole life, but it would take anyone 2 seconds to beat me on the internet.
Cheating is unfortunately beyond easy.

I don't think "cheating" is really a big deal...as the event is just an event.
I mean, what is the benefit to cheating? And how would you cheat in chess? Other than drawing someone else's opinion on a move...
The moves could be done very quickly...30 second intervals or something as to get the event going and erase down time.
