I was buying a marked rune book from TheEttinKing for 10k. After the transaction got done, he says he's giving away gold, dropped 15k at my feet, and promply recalled away.

I ended up with a runebook to a ton of lvl 4 chests + 5k net.

Alas, the runebook is no more...looted by gankers at LL a couple of days ago.

Then he does this.

How come he's not already in the HoF?!?!?!

My experience was looking for a large house. I could not find a place for my patio, yet I ended up running into a gentleman on IRC, he had 2-story in great location. All the gold I had to my name was the patio deed(It was day #7 here). He took the patio deed for the his 2-story and that I pay him another 60k when I have it. It was the first time I have ever heard of a loan on UO! I paid him back promptly!

Here's one that just happened actually. I was running around Vesper with my Gypsy, and struck up a conversation with Carnivourous. After I had commented on what a fine animal his steed was(a nightmare) I happened to ask him, jokingly of course, if he'd like to trade. HE DID! He traded me a nightmare for my lil' pwny. Anyways, THANKS CARNIVOROUS!

Something I wrote on another forum after my first days play on this shard:

Within the first 30 minutes of me playing: I'm out at the graveyard pathetically trying to kill zombies with my new character, when a guy comes up to me and drops a crate at my feet claiming "free stuff! have a look". My UO intuition from 8 years ago clearly hadn't gone anywhere, as my gut instantly told me that the guy had put a trap on the box and opening it would kill me. So I casually walked away - the guy followed, persisted. He had a friend with him who was clearly a bit clumsy and opened it by mistake, perhaps fumbling while trying to double click my character. He got hit by venemous poison, ran around in a panic trying to cure it, before keeling over dead. I helped myself to his stuff and walked back to town while his embarrassed friend could do nothing but laugh.

Soon after that, a roleplayer walks up to me while I'm out wrestling rabbits and offers me a leaflet about the Militia. I accept and he passes me a book full of in-character info about the Militia guild, details of their town, history etc and a link for more info. Was about 8 pages long, hand-written (you can only buy blank books and theres no easy way to copy them as far as I know). I'm not really much of a RPer but I was still impressed by the effort, and the general character of this guy. I asked if he wanted it back, assuming it had taken some time investment, and he walked away not saying anything.

Later I find myself trapped in a tomb with a zombie and a skeleton wielding an axe, and shortly after I'm dead. I run back to a healer as a ghost, and rush back to my corpse, worried that someone's going to loot my reagents which were pretty much all I had to my name (and without which making any more money was gonna be tough). I see someone near my corpse and instantly assume they're looting it, but go take a look anyway. More zombies, skeletons and some ghouls now chasing me around, no chance of being able to get near my stuff. After running around for a bit I see the guy start to cast an invisibility spell, and some long buried intuition kicks in again as I run right at the zombies to where my corpse is. Like I'd hoped, he drops the invis on me right as I get there, so I can loot all my stuff safely. Meanwhile he wipes out everything in the graveyard, collects all the gold they had and drops the pile at my feet. Then without saying anything he sits there while a couple of remaining zombies gnaw on his arms, an unspoken offer for me to get some wrestling practice with the zombies without taking any damage. I wrestle them both down (very slowly) getting a lot of skill gains, while he keeps himself happily alive with heals, and eventually both are dead and I'm about 10 points higher in wrestling. I say thanks, and he invites me back to his castle (turns out this guy is one rich bastard) - he opens a gate, we both step through. We end up talking for a fair bit about ze old times, and after a bit he offers me 20k to help me get started. Being the non-greedy type I said 15k would be fine (¬_¬), at which point he also offered to buy me a house so I could safely macro, but I turned him down in favour of experiencing being a weakling newbie for a while longer.

Anyway, the result is I'm back in love with this game for similar reasons to why I was ten years ago. Within such a short space of time I encountered some comical pair of griefers, a respectable RPer and a generous random stranger, all of which had relatively profound effects on my characters life. It's the ease of these kind of events occurring that made me love UO - they made every play session a different experience with different stories to tell, rather than every session just merging into one long process of heading down a level/item road one hour at a time.

You can copy and paste in UO! and also, not sure about here, but it's possible to use pen and ink to make copies of books. still, you can ctrl+c stuff and ctrl+v in the game sir!

Ah, yeah I had a feeling that was the case to be honest, but I'm sure I remember back in the day not being able to paste... maybe it was just the really old client that didn't allow it (eg back when the login screen was that chest that opened up) or maybe I'm just a lil bit a'crazy. Either way it was a nice touch though.

The inscription skill allows you to copy books exactly to other books ;D

so i'm back in britain, asked a couple of fellas where can i find a reliable player vendor with full spellbooks. one guy takes me to yew gate and takes me to a house (that was FULL of chests in april 1 =)) i said "thanks, i'll come back here when i have the cash." and he just bought one and gave it to me.

i know money ain't a big issue (gonna start farming soon) but i'm still macroing skills. so it was a big favor for me.

That would be me :)

Hope it helped.

I think the majority of players on the shard are more than willing to help out new players. Just going out of your way a little to help new arrivals does no end of good in terms of increasing the overall population of the shard. If we can get another 600 or so players it may well help with the blue/red imbalance aswell....but thats a whole different topic.
:D

I don't care where the money came from, the fact that he marked the rune book, and dedicated some time to me on IRC to give me the advise he gave me (which I'll keep to myself, tyvm), is enough act of kindness to worth mention.

Okay, enough is enough! To update my previous post of Carnivorus giving me a Nightmare. I happened to see him again today in Vesper. Once again I was on my Gypsy. I rode up to him to give thanks for his generous gift I recieved only a few nights before. He wishes to see my dwelling which at the time cosists of two smalls right outside the Gypsy camps in Minoc.

He smirks at my humble abode, which I found offensive by no means, then tells me that a gypsy shouldnt be living in such a place. I ask him where he thinks a gyspy might live then. He gates me to a large brick obviously owned by the Pirates of Pee and places the dwelling under my ownership.

Before I have the chance to try and reject the gift, or even properly thank him he vanishes! I feel overwhelemed at the moment by the generosity of this man, and feel unworthy of his gifts, yet nonetheless am completely grateful.

If this kind Carnivorous happens to read this post I would like to discuss this topic further with him.

Until then,
THANKS SO MUCH!!!
